  1. I think the best advice is don't get discouraged when you start and you aren't getting A's on tests like you used to. Some people still get the A's but a lot don't. Be happy with passing, the teachers will tell you that and it's true. Even if you get to the final and need 85% to pass, believe that you can do it. Also, Physical Assessment can be a really hard class. The class isn't long enough so the teachers don't have time to show you what you need to do during the assessment. You really have to read the book, watch youtube videos and teach yourself. Make a script of what you will say and do when you do your head to toe assessment (know the cranial nerves). If you have a student in your class that is taking it again, ask them for help and watch what they do when they practice. Be prepared for a test and skills check off's almost every week. Good luck!
  2. Congratulations to all those who were accepted! Get ready to work hard!
  3. I got the TB test done today at the CVS on Fort St. in Wyandotte
  4. I will have to check that out! Did you go right to their main hospital or one of the urgent care centers?
  5. Thank you NayNay! Very excited and scared! I went to Concentra yesterday and they do everything but the location I went to didn't have the Hep B shot. The lady told me to check the health department because the shots are less expensive and sometimes are free. I am calling Herman Keifer tomorrow to make an appointment.
  6. YAY! Congrats! So happy for you!! I know, we have to rush on things. I think CVS does the physical and immunizations at their minute clinic. I am going to stop and make sure.
  7. Thank you, I am so excited! Good luck Trish!
  8. I just got my mail. It came and I have been accepted!!
  9. I hope so, I am so nervous.
  10. I got there really early and there were maybe 15 people but it didn't take long so a lot might have shown up after I left. Were there a lot there when you applied?
  11. Not that I need to justify anything I have said but you are implying I am a troublemaker, I'm not and I'm not trying to impress anyone. I thought I had reliable information about a new date and I spoke before I should have. I said I was wrong to do that and apologized. We have all worked hard to get to this point and waiting to hear something that will change your life adds to the stress. The thread about the DMC was information I heard from someone working there and I wanted the opinion of WCCCD nurses because that is the best place to get the information on that topic. Nurses and students were kind enough to offer advice and information, which is what these forums are for. In the Spring 2013 hopeful thread I had the wrong medical math number. At the time WCCCD had two medical maths ALH105 and HSC100. I did not realize there were two and did not spread a rumor. WCCCD is the school I have always wanted to attend and this is my one chance. Hopefully all of us get good news soon, good luck.
  12. I apologize everyone for the wrong info.
  13. I'm sorry that you feel I was trying to start a rumor or impress, that wasn't my intention. I was told by two different students that they had papers from the office showing a new deadline. I thought it was reliable information but obviously I was wrong. I should have waited until I called the office. As soon as I found out I posted that I was wrong. I was upset because this is also my dream and I don't want anything putting it in Jeopardy.
  14. Disregard, I emailed them and the deadline was yesterday. They said the selection process will begin in one week and those chosen will know shortly thereafter.
  15. The deadline has now been moved to December 9. This is unreal.
  16. I haven't received any emails from them. Oh no, I hope nothing is wrong with my application. I did call on Friday and was told for sure the last day is Oct 3. When I asked if we would find out in about six weeks the answer was "about". I hope they send letters since I am not getting emails from them. Another thing to worry about.
  17. With the way they kept changing the deadline for the Spring 2014 semester you might get lucky and still get to apply in time for Fall 2014.
  18. I just turned 48 and I'm waiting to hear if I've been accepted into a program. I am single, own a home and will be giving up a good job but I WANT to be a nurse. It's a huge risk and I'm scared to death but I'm going to keep moving forward. I have no idea how I will make things work but I will do the best I can. God willing I get accepted into the program and in two years will become an RN. Then it's on to get my BSN.
  19. Hi, If you take A & P II in Spring 2014 the soonest you can start the program would be Spring 2015. Normally the deadline for the Spring term is around June 30 but this year the deadline has been changed several times and October 3 is the deadline for the Spring 2014 term. Good luck to you!
  20. I like the fact that there is no waiting list too. It's nice to hear a positive viewpoint. I am excited, nervous and scared about the thought of starting nursing school! I can't wait to find out if I made it or not, a couple more months I will know! I will send you a message if I make it. Good luck to you and thank you so much!
  21. I think, you have given me more realistic, positive information than I have ever gotten. Nursing school is supposed to be hard. I am not young and giving up a good job to do this so my only choice is to succeed. Letters are supposed to go out end of October so I will send you a pm! Again, thank you!
  22. Thank you for the advice. When it's done I just want the information I need to be a good nurse.
  23. That would be nice. This whole thing is very stressful and it will only get worse!
  24. Hi everyone and thanks for the responses. A fellow student works at Children's and she saw a memo that listed WCCCD and some other schools that said they would not hire from those schools this year. I have since been told that, as expected, the DMC would only hire nurses with a BSN starting in 2015 so I think that might be the reason they won't be hiring nurses from WCCCD. Personally, I like WCCCD and have always planned on finishing then starting a RN-BSN program right away so I am just going to keep on with that plan.
  25. Hi, I have applied at WCCCD and hope to start Spring, 2014. I have heard a few things that are making me wonder if going there is the right choice. I knew that the program was not nationally accredited but have read all that means is you can't work for a hospital/clinic that is run by the federal government. Now I am being told that hospitals outside of the state of MI will not hire you. Does anyone know which is correct? I also found out that Children's Hospital will not hire nurses from WCCCD. I'm not sure why or if that includes all of the DMC but I am worried if they have stopped hiring will other local hospitals as well? If anyone went there could give me information about the accreditation or if they had a hard time getting a job because they went there, it would be appreciated. Thanks
