Ok I found out two days ago that I picked an instructor who knows physiology but not good at teaching it. I was referred to several instructors who know how to teach anatomy and/or physiology in a way its easy to graps and understand the concepts. However, a buddy of mine told me about a very good anatomy and physiolgy instructor who I may be interested in. The instructor only teach a special condense hybrid course in the spring semester. The class is setup like this Saturday online introduction to the new anatomy material for in class lecture and lab Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday introduction to the new physiology material for in class lecture and lab Thursday and Friday. The instructor uses a lot of in class and online modles for students to touch and see along with Starwars analogys for concepts. The only problem is that the class is on a condense schedule so there is the potiential that the class will either finish 4 to 6 week earlier than a normal class. Should I attempt this class or stick with one of the good instructors who teach on a normal schedule?

Thanks for the encouragement... I will try again but think im going to take them as two seperate courses. Hopefully I can get the same anatomy instructor and a better physiology instructor. I was going to attempt the class online but my confidence level in science classes aren't to much above the water.

I've taken intro to human biology but not chemistry yet. I could be incorrect but it sounds like there was an order that I should have taken the classes to make things simpler. Is this the order Human Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Micorbiology and Organic Chemistry? Yes the lab instructor (Anatomy) was great I still actually remember and understand a great majority of what was taught in class. However the lecture instructor (Physiology) didn't teach in a way where concepts were easy to understand (the essay portions of the test proved enough for me).

I just looked at a few youtube videos on the topic and wow. Wish I would have thought to look a youtube back then but now I know going forward thanks.

Thanks you everyone for your responses I really appriciate them and will put them into action next time around. I just wish I knew what I know right now maybe a month or so before the class started. On the brighter side I have the book and some notes that will give me a head start on the spring semester. I'm thinking of taking the Anatomy and Physiology as two seperate courses is that a good idea?

You hit it right on the nose how I felt every time I got a C grade. I would question myself saying maybe if I would have stayed up another 3 or 4 hours before this test. I was going to record the lecture but the instructor would not allow us to record or take pictures of his lectures. Next time around Im gonna put in extra effort and say up till 4 to 6 am if I have to.

Yes but it only covered chapter definitions which helped in some aspect of the class. I wished the study guide covered body functions like how bones are made, muscle move movement, homeostasis etc. His test works like this 25 mulitple choice covering certain aspects of physiology like describe abduction movement or what is the best example of transcription. Also on the test were 5 essay questions that cover certain specifics of physiology like explain positive and negative feedback of homeostasis. Thanks Ill be sure to look her up when I retake the class in Spring.

Sounds like the instructor I had. Just curious how did you teach yourself? I tried to do the same but wasn't to good at it judging by my grades in lecture (Physiology).

today i dropped my first pre-nursing course and i'm a bit down in the blues. let me just say for starters science is not my strongest academic suit, yet i'm interested in nursing enough not to avoid them any longer. when i first enrolled in anatomy and physiology i really had no idea what i was getting into. i've heard a rumor around campus about how tough the class is and how much study time is needed just to get the minimum passing grade but i took the rumors lightly. first off for an 18 week course anatomy and physiology was moving to the tune of 2 to 4 chapters a week. needless to say every time i looked up it was a test, practicum, or the instructors giving about 5 hours of information in a 2 hour period. the class was broken down where the lecture (monday & wednesday) would focus on the physiology aspect and the lab (tuesday & thursday) would focus on the anatomy aspect. i did well in the lab made b's on the first 4 test and got an a and b on the first two practicums. however in the lecture i made 3 c's on the first 3 exams and a d on the last one. my comfort level in the lab is sky high in comparison to the lecture where very little was sinking in. not to mention that the lecture exam included 5 essay questions asking how certain organs, tissue and chemicals function within the body. the only thing that really saved me during the lecture exams was that i could recall some of the information that was covered by the lab instructor. other than that i was up a river with no paddles or life vest when it came to lecture exams. i'm not going to make any excuses for my bad grades and feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but i feel that physiology is a class that requires the instructor to take the time to breakdown, use example and models to explain concepts and functions. i know that instructors don't have to do all of that and trust me this lecture instructor don't. however it would sure increase the learn curve and concepts and functions would be easy to grasp over a handout.

Gotcha ya RN and BSN is top priority. A few days ago upper management and my direct supervisor made it so that I can work 2 ten hours shifts on the weekend and a few hours during the week if needed. Also my parents said if I want I could move back in and they would help as much as they could. Thanks for the heads up about the gpa I've heard simiar today that in the science pre-reqs a grade of c is considered not passing in the eyes of most nursing schools. My back up plan if this don't work out is to get my bacholors degree (two years left) in criminal justice while doing ROTC.

YaY made a B on my first lab exam. Tomorrow another lab exam, Monday lecture exam, follow up with a lap/practicum on Tuesday and Thursday. I'm still a bit overwhelmed but at the same time that quiz took a whole lot of stress off of me. I took your adivse about studying the chapter review and the book website and wow I feel so ready for that lab quiz tomorrow and the test on Monday. Thanks so much . P.S. A bit more than half of the class failed the first lab. Grrrrrrr makes me nervious about the future.

[shaking my head] I'm finding the A&P class I enrolled in a bit to fast pace for my comfort level (Its been two weeks now and we are on exercise 10 of 40 in lab and chapter 5 of 16 in lecture; 18 week course). Its like I barely have time to absorb and digest information before more is introduced to me. Last Thursday I had a lab quiz and I didn't feel confident in my ability to perform at my best (good thing one quiz gets tossed out). Overall, I feel a bit overwhelmed by the class since it seem to be taking all my time especially when it come to making flash card and homework. The experiance that I'm having in regards to the A&P class im currently enrolled in normal or did I get in over my head?

Hello Took your advise and made a timeline for And (the 2 local universities req Rn before being admit to their Bsn) Here is the timeline I made with prereqs, and classes, and est. cost (tentive): Fall 2011: A&P $480, Winter 2012: Chem and Psy $680, Spring 2012: Micro & psy $680 Teas Test & apply for nursing school, Spring 2013: Nursing Pre-Admin $868 and Year 1 $1826, Fall 2013: Year 2 $1119 Graduation and Rn State exam $686 Im finding out quickly that nursing isnt an inexpensive major that Require A Lot of Time. Think I'm going nursing first if that doesn't pan out Air Force medical field here I come.

I'm currently taking my final 6 nursing pre req classes and should have them complete by spring end of 2012. However, I have a few questions that I really need cleared up to I know what to expect going forward. 1) Nursing wise, what is the difference between going to a community college and getting an AND and becoming a RN and attending a 4 year institution and getting a BSN and becoming a RN? 2) This may sound unintelligent but why do some 4 year institutions only allow RN's admissions into their BSN+ program while some others only admit students who have a nursing degree from there school and or is a LVN/LPN/RN? 3) How do I become a surgical and or trauma nurse and is the process to become on overly complicated/competitive? 4) After getting my BSN I may (may) join the military as a nurse any advise? 5) Any other helpful information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. I went and chatted with a recruiter and based on the conversation he suggested that I get both my and and bsn before joining any branch of service. Also if I need financial help he gave me the number to a couple of Rotc detachments that I can look into.

Hello everyone, I have a few questions in regards to the Air Force and or any branch of the military regarding the nursing field. First off I'm a late bloomer 27 with an A.A. in criminal justice and interested in nursing now. I was chatting with my local community college counselor and she told me based on the the classes I've already taken I just need 6 more classes to complete the pre-nursing prereq (anatomy and or physiology, chemistry, microbiology, and 2 course in psychology). I figure I could take anatomy and physiology as one course in the fall, chemistry and 1 psychology course in the winter, and finish up with microbiology and 1 psychology course in the winter. Then I could apply to the nursing progam and if im accepted into the program I could begin nursing school next fall. After I complete nursing school and hopefully pass the state board RN certification test I could work on my BSN at a local university (the local university only accept nursing students who have an RN license ). However, its been a long goal of mine to join the Air Force for the overall experiance. One thing I was told about the Air Force and or any branch of the military is that I don't want to be stuck with a job I dislike for my term in service. Also, make sure the job I select have a civilian counter part in case I decide not to make a career of the military. Im guessing since my focus is on nursing (one specific job) I'll be open to any branch of the military but I would really perfer Air Force. I really would appriciate any additional information and or suggestion that is provided along the answers to these questions. (I really don't know what questions to ask) Do the Air Force or any other branch of the military have a nursing program for enlisted personnel? If not what is the nearest match job wise to being a nurse? Would I be better off completing nursing school in a community college or in the military? Do the military offer some type of program for non personnel to become a nurse? Any other advise or suggestions would be greatly appriciated. Thanks
