One year doesn't actually sound too bad. I've been trying to find information on here because something about it makes me feel iffy, but then again, I don't trust anyone lol Did you do the LVN program at Job Corps, or know someone who did? P.s thank you for your response :)

I know that there are some old threads about Job Corps and I've read info. on their website and what-not. I was just wondering if some one could give me any specific information on how it works? I've heard that it can take up to two years to complete, but has anyone finished the LVN/LPN program sooner? Is it self-paced? I'm sorry for all the questions but everything about it seems too good. Is it like going to school and you get homework or do you go to school and complete it all at your own pace? Any info is appreciated.

No, I’m not yet a nurse. I like learning and I like knowing history. I like learning from my mistakes as well as others mistakes, which was why I posted this. I feel I’m a bit eager and want to start learning already on what I should do/what I should not do. Maybe I wanted to poke my head in the door a little too soon. This was never really intended to humiliate anyone and I probably should have used a different term other than “craziest.” I know one day I will mistakes, but I also know that I will LEARN from them too. If you fall, you get back up and next time look where you’re walking. As for my other thread, I don’t think there is anything wrong with questioning the intelligence/skills/degree of those who take care of us or those who take care of OUR families. We make sure to know so much about who governs our city, state, country, why not in healthcare? To those of you who were willing enough to share your experiences, thank you.

Well, I'm not a nurse yet...so this will probably be off topic as it's not related to nursing but I'll go ahead and make fun of myself lol My brother was once talking to me and he randomly said/joked that watermelons grow on trees. Being sleep deprived as I was, I asked him what happens when watermelons got really heavy? Did they just fall from the tree when ripe? But if they grow on trees that means trees are weighed down by all the watermelons. Here he is, my brother, just laughing at me:lol2: Then I remembered vines.

With all honesty, I didn't start this to humiliate or embarrass anyone. I've always been fortunate enough to have wonderful nurses take care of me. And a recent post got me wondering whether or not some nurses mess up or do anything not "normal." Sorry if this offended anyone.

I still have a long way to go. I'll barely be starting my science classes this upcoming Fall (which starts next week!), and I feel really overwhelmed, but I know that this is what I want to do. I may finish some time in 2015 or later :/ Yay! You're so lucky, you get to start pretty soon, I know this semester will go by fast for you so I wish you good grades and a great future!

Well, that's true, but I think with nursing, you kind of have to prove yourself (like taking TEAS, NCLEX, etc). It felt to me like this person was just sliding by.... Hopefully no one will ever say that about me either. lol

Okay, let me start off by stating that with this post, I am NOT trying to insult anyone, I am just wondering... Have you ever questioned how anyone got into a nursing program? How they passed their classes? How they passed the NCLEX? I'm asking because I was talking to a nursing student a few weeks ago and he was telling me how he was able to get into the nursing program because he had a 3.0 GPA. He said he got this GPA by networking and going to so many schools to take easy professors who basically give you an "A" for whatever course (such as Anatomy, Physiology, Microbio.,etc). At first I thought okay he's not book smart, but he probably has a passion for wanting to become a nurse. He said the reason he was doing it was because nurses in our area make good money. I asked about his TEAS score and he said he did okay, that he barely "passed." Now, I've been hospitalized NUMEROUS times. So the fact that some one like that is going to become a nurse kind of scares me. People like him take care of people like me... Has anyone ever encountered someone whose degree is questionable? Just asking...

lol. I've thought about joining Job Corps for their LVN program out here in CA. I haven't heard/read too many great things about the people/staff, but the school's LVN passing rate, I'd say, is pretty decent. I have yet to make life-altering decisions and these butterflies keep making me nervous! Thank you and good luck to you too :)

Oh yes! This is another factor that's driving me crazy! I do receive Pell Grants. My school has this thing, I don't know if other schools do too, but after 90 attempted units we are put on lock list. Once on lock list we're only allowed to take courses approved by a counselor. I have 85 attempted units, after the fall semester I think I will be put on lock list if I decide to stay and complete my ADN. Which terrifies me because if I don't get accepted into the nursing program at my school, I feel it will have been time wasted. I would love the breathing room, but at the same time, I do not want to make such a huge mistake in my life. I'm trying to take in all these factors at once, and I think this is one of the most important ones I forgot all about. Thank you for the reminder and advice. :)

If everything were easy, then we wouldn't be in such dilemmas! lol I keep making time-lines to see how long everything will take me, and now I don't know what to do! If I get accepted into other schools I might try to just go for Social Work due to my attempted units and what now. Good luck! Hopefully we'll both figure out which path to take :)

Okay, I know I'm asking a lot of questions lol but I have to know if I even have a chance Has anyone here recently applied to the El Camino College nursing program? If so, what was your GPA/scores? Any tips on how I could get it? I still have some time until I apply and I figured a headstart wouldn't hurt. Please, any advice is appreciated! I think I'm going crazy! Did any of you feel as many butterflies when you decided to apply to a nursing program.

So...I've been at a JC for almost three years. Not because I'm dumb or anything, but because I never really knew which career to go with. I've chose nursing and the JC I've attended has a nursing program. The school supposedly has no waiting list, either you get into the program or not, sounds so simple...My thing is, since I've been here so long, I would love to continue to stay here and complete my ADN. I have yet to complete my prerequisites, so I estimate about a year or so to APPLY. I think it would only take one more semester to complete the requirements, and they all have to be done before I can apply. By the way, I go to El Camino College in Torrance, CA, so if anyone has recently applied and could give me more information, I would greatly appreciate it:lol2: Okay so here's my dilemma: Should I only be interested in one school and completing the requirements for ONE school. or should I look into other schools as well? I know the prereq's vary in the CSU, so I'm very undecided. By the way, I have the option of transferring out for Spring '12 as a Social Work major. What's driving me crazy is that it seems that in all the time it's going to take me to complete the prereq's and the program I could get my bachelors and then apply to an advanded BSN program....ahhhh! WOW! When was it time for you to breathe?! lol I've been admitted to hospitals before, but I don't think I ever quite appreciated the nurses/aides/respiratory therapists as much as now that I know what they go through. (I mean I was never rude to anyone who attended me, and I would always say thank you, but this opens my eyes!) Thank you so much for sharing! From what I've read on here, many people feel unappreciated and overworked. Is this the way it is with everyone? Would you mind sharing what setting you've worked in and what you've experienced?

Okay, so I'm planning to become a CNA...I live in Southern California (LA), and I was wondering if anyone could give me some sort of information as to how exactly I can start networking and looking for places in which to work. I've heard of LTC/hospice/hospitals, but I don't quite know what's the difference, and which pays "better." So any information given will be very much appreciated.

Yes, I've read that being a CNA will look great on a resume, and money is tight therefore, I figured it wouldn't hurt to get my foot in the door. I've even started researching places where I can apply too lol, a little early, but at least I feel that I have a sense of where I am going. Thank you! That sounds very interesting. I am interested in becoming a CNA to work my way up to a RN, but from what I've heard, CNA's don't make too much money. Have you started the LVN program?
