  1. I'm starting to get a little discouraged with some of the things i'm hearing about actually entering a nursing program when all the prereqs are done. I already have a bachelors in communications, and should have all my prereqs done after one more semester, but some people are saying that RN schools are so backed up there is a 1-2 year wait to even begin? Is that true? I may as well get my masters in healthcare admin while i'm waiting...i can get that done in a little over a year! Thanks for any info, Derek
  2. Hey everyone, I'm kind of at a crossroads at my life right now, going back to school to be in the medical field, but I'm just unsure of which path to take. One of my options would be to get an RN, but the other field I would like to enter is the hospital administration side of things. My only obstacle is that I just have a bachelors in communications, and no real hospital/medical experience. To get an RN it would take me maybe 1/½ - 2 years, but I could actually get my masters done in mba/healthcare in a bout a year. My question is is it hard, even with an mba, or even before I get an mba to get a position even starting out in a hospital with no experience? Even like a billing clerk or something like that? I also thought about getting a medical/billing/coding certificate but that's another year and more time and money spent on something else that I wouldn't wanna be doing forever. Anyways, I'd love to hear your thoughts and advice on hospital /health administration, if anyone has them. Thanks so much for any information you could provide as it would be very very appreciated! Hope everyone is well! Derek [email protected]
  3. What is/was everyone's hardest class in nursing school and why?
  4. Does anyone know if Phoenix requires a GMAT test score to enter the program? Do they require work experience also, or any other tough admission standards one should know about? Is this program widely accepted at most hospitals? Thanks, Derek
  5. Can anyone tell me what a degree/job in healthcare management/administration is like compared to nursing? Are the prereqs the same for this degree and is the job easier/harder to get than nursing? Any information and differences/similarities would be appreciated! Thanks! Derek [email protected]
  6. So I'm finishing up prereqs to get into a nursing program and I just started Anatomy & Physiology 1 and am just a tad overwhelmed. Its not as if the material is HARD, it is just sooo much to know and memorize. Does it get easier when the actuall nursing program classes come? If I want to be a psych nurse will I have to retain and use daily every single thing in anatomy like regions, planes, cavities, ect ect ect...I'm just hoping it gets a bit easier and am a little discouraged! Anyone have any opinions on what the hardest/easiest classes are?
  7. Is there a huge difference in salary, or marketability, or ability to land a job versus the two? I already hold a BS in communications, so after my prereqs would it be a better idea to just get an associates and start working, or to go all the way through and get another bachelors? Very much looking forward to hearing different opinions and experiences with this. Thanks! Derek
  8. This is not a homework assignment...Nurse Lovejoy are people's lives really in the balance in your hands or do you have lots of help?? I can't even imagine how stressfull that would be?!
  9. What are some of the main, and most important reasons people have for going into nursing? What are people's biggest fears about being a nurse?? Thanks for any and all opinions!:redbeathe
  10. Has anyone ever had any trouble getting liscenced due to background? Are DUI's a deal breaker? How about an expunged felony from 8 years ago? Thanks
  11. I keep hitting roadblocks on where to start to get an RN at. I already hold a bachelors degree so the fastest route I'd think would be to get an RN through an assciates program at a local junior college, however some of them require a CNA before you can even enter those? I guess I'll keep trying until I find one that doesnt. Would it be a better idea to get a whole nother 4 year degree in nursing if I already have a bachelors in communications? Couldn't I just get an RN in two years then begin working ?
  12. Anyone graduate from Brown Mackie's RN program or can attest to their credibility? What would be better a school like that or a Community college that for sure is accredited? I already have a BS in Communications but just want to get an RN.. Thanx! Derek
  13. How hard is it in general these days to land an RN job if you are willing to work in a number of different states?
  14. Can anyone talk about any of the nursing fields and why they chose the one they did? I think mental health nursing/psychiatric looks the most interesting and fun by far any thoughts on that?!
  15. Thanks again guys. So it sounds like its not hard at all to get liscenced in whatever state you want? I'd really like to be a travel nurse, do you have to work in a hospital for a certain amount of time before you can do that? If an accelerated BSN is 12-18 months is it shorter than even getting an associates?! Is it hard to get the 3 day 12 hour shifts? Continued thanks!
  16. Hehe ok thanx guys. 1) How long does it generally take to get an RN? I already have a BS in commmunications but i did it through U of Phoenix so im not sure how many classes would count? 2) What is the avg starting salary for a 1st year RN? 3) Any details or advice on the RN exam like how long is it, and how soon after you get your RN degree do you take it? 4) What if I may get an RN in one state but want to move to another state to work? I'll start with those )
  17. Would any kind soul out there like to take the time to answer many general questions I have about getting an RN and getting into nursing? I have many, as I'd be a career changer with a bachelors degree in communications. If anyone would help me and trade a few emails with me i'd really really be thankful! Derek [email protected]
