  1. No. Nursing doctorate does not change the scope of practice. A back up doctor is for when a client become high risk or need care that in not within the CNM scope of practice.
  2. WOW! I wish I could make that much. I am an RN/homebirth assistant in Lancaster, PA. I get $150 per birth pay directly from the clients. But our home birth CNMs here on average get $1600 for prenatal, L&D, and postpartum care.
  3. I wouldn't worry about getting a job. We have several "young" midwives in my area. One finished her schooling with the CNM I work for. She was hired right out of school at 28. :)
  4. Hi. you could contact some distance programs to make yourself available. Philadelphia University keeps a list of potential preceptors for student struggling to find preceptors. I imagine other schools do, too. :)
