Thank you OP! I have thought that myself and nearly been discouraged. I did some face to face research with nurses in my area, recently graduated from the RN and BSN program I'm considering. Totally different version of the world from them, in a great way! So yes, I think that the greatly dissatisfied are louder than the really happy people in general, not just nurses. Makes sense to me, the happy people are out enjoying their non-work hour instead of stewing and brewing on a forum. And there is nothing wrong with seeking validation, it just creates an inaccurate picture for newbies.

Well good luck to your blood fearing classmate. I saw the info sessions on the calender on the SON site, but I was thinking it was too early in the process for me to attend. Thank you for suggesting that, because it makes sense that there may be information I need to plan efficiently. I hope the Dell coordinator gets back to you soon, and good idea about the clinic in RR. I'm in the same boat with graduate plans- most certainly research (also a narrow and hard to find thread on here) and very possibly nurse practitioner. I'll be sure to keep you posted!

Omg hello! I thought I was all alone! Well I am happy you responded. I have a theory on the small number of UT hopefuls - I think most ppl prefer the ACC ADN bc it is cheaper, and still a very good program. You can get your BSN later, but with less money up front, after you have a job skill (and hopefully a job!)that may help you pay for your later education. I do have a few questions :) Are you taking only the required courses at UT this semester before transferring to upper division? Also, are you volunteering anywhere? I really would love to know what your UT classmates are like, activities and stats-wise, but I'm sure they are tight lipped about personal info since it is so competitive. You'll be in the upper division program for about a year before I get there so I may have to ask you a few more things! Thanks in advance!

Clarification btw- when I said "I can't start a club alone", I meant, according to the rule book at ACC regarding new clubs. Each new club has to have a pres, secretary and tresurer. You just have to be there for the first meeting and I'll take it from there.

I'm wondering if there is a way for me to start a non school specific club for ppl in the area, since we have many future nurses here going to many schools. If I come up with a plan Tex42cares, i'll send it to you! Maybe blog open to comments?

So at ACC there are so many pre-nursing students, all taking similar classes, but we never get to meet up in person. I thought it would be really nice for us to have a group of our own, while we spend a year or two taking prereqs so we can share our collective experiences and help one another. Many people in my classes have expressed interest, but I am still looking for a treasurer and a secretary. The duties and time commitment will be minimal, I promise to do %80 of the work myself, I just can't start a club alone! You can showcase your leadership abilities while sprucing up your resume and networking. Allnurses is so beneficial, wouldn't it be nice to have lunch or happy hour with the same people in the Austin area? Anyone who is interested, let me know! Hope to see you all soon!

Hi all! I've been lurking for about a year and finally decided to introduce myself. I'm taking prereqs at Austin Community college full time. I'm planning/ hoping to do core BSN credits and nursing prereqs there and transfer into UT's upper division BSN sequence. I got the stats from their admissions person (super sweet woman!) and it doesn't seem unrealistic. Anyone else in the same boat? It's nice to be here!

I have to disagree with the above poster and empathize with the first two responders. I saw my doctor about hypoglycemic symptoms unrelated to anti hyperglycemic medications and he said it was common for women in their 20's, especially under stress. Side note, some birth controls I have noticed make it worse for me than others. I had the same glucose of about 80 right after a starchy breakfast. Hope you find what works for you and feel better.
