Relocating to Chattanooga
Thanks! I was wondering about the Ga vs. Tn Schools because I wasn’t sure if I should let that determine our housing situation. Right now we are just looking, but there houses listed in N. Ga that would be a reasonable commute for working in Chatt. However the taxes would be a factor, since I am accustomed to not paying any state tax I might not like having Ga as my home address :0) Also I don’t want to get stuck with the out of state tuition either. That is another thing I have to figure out, how that all works? I will probably be stuck with a semester as an out of state student so I should save 1 or 2 minor classes at that rate, as opposed to being ready to apply to the program at the higher tuition.

What prereq classes are you taking this fall? How many to go?
Growth & Development was easy, I took the same professor for Psych & HG over a summer session and he was really good IMO. Stats was fine, but I know that was due to the professor I had for that class. I am horrible at math, but he broke everything down. And like previously stated, stats is real life, physical. It was easier for me to grasp once I had the right understanding and a professor with a great teaching model. I am nervous about Chem, it is not required for the ASN program, but is for the BSN and I am really trying to get all those courses out of the way to ensure I follow through with completing my BSN if I get into the ASN program. My husband may possibly be getting transferred through work to Chattanooga, so if that happens and I have to start up there the whole game changes as to what classes are required, some of my classes will be wasted, and Chem is the ONLY pre req for the day progam there, so I have to get moving on that one ASAP whether I like it or not!

I start A&P 1 and am taking Spanish I as a co-req for the BSN program here in Florida. Classes start Thursday! So far I have taken 37 credits, Mostly to be prepared in case I do not get into the ASN program and need to apply directly to the BSN program at another school. So far everything has been easy, I got all the easy classes out of the way first and now I have to bite the bullet and take the harder ones to apply! I have finished: Stats Psych Human Growth & Development Nutrition Art appreciation (humanities course) Ancient World-Medieval (writing intensive humanities) World History American History Intro to Bio Biological Science I (lecture & Lab) Comp I Comp II Sociology I still need to complete AP 1, then take AP 2. Then Micro and Chem.

Mothers/ Expecting Mothers while attending school
You can manage it! Are you just starting out with the Pre Reqs or are you starting the program? I enrolled in my first college class when I was pregnant, Psych 101, Summer semester. When I started I was HUGE pregnant, I was so nervous being an older student and pregnant. But I was determined not to post pone my education any longer! I managed that first class and when I started my second that summer, session B (Human growth & Dev) I was induced at 36 weeks, cutting into my semester. I missed NO class, I had my son and was released, the next day I went back to class. It all depends on how determined you are. I used that as my fuel, If I was strong enough to go back that quickly, and sacrifice time away from my new baby, and trust daddy with him all by himself then there was no way I was EVER going to take a semester off because I was too tired, or needed a break. I work FT and take 1 or 2 classes a semester and always take 1 class each summer session. I started in 2009 and am now nearly ready to apply to the program (I am determined to have all the pre reqs completed first so I have more time while in the program). My husband and I are considering adding a 3rd to our family, and if we do it will need to be quick! Where I work I get FMLA, so I need to take advantage of that while I can before I am a FT student in the program. Good Luck to you, on both your education, and your growing family!

Relocating to Chattanooga
Hello Everyone! I'm hoping for some guidance from you all. I live in South Florida and have been working towards applying to the RN or BSN program here, however there is a possibility that my Husband will be getting transferred in the next month or so to Chattanooga for work. He is guaranteed 2 years of work there, so we would relocate as a family once he gets settled. I am panicking over the prospect of moving! My plan was to complete all the pre-reqs for my local community college, as well as the university the offers a BSN program and apply to both since they are competitive. I have only been taking a few classes a semester since I work FT and I want to get the best grades possible, now when I am so close to being ready to apply this move is putting a wrench in my plans! I have to figure this out before applying to the program, if I apply and get accepted I won't be able to make the move with him. I have completed a good portion of classes I need for my associates degree, as well as those needed for the BSN program just to be safe. Since the pre reqs here are more than the pre reqs I have seen listed at the schools in Tenn. I feel pretty good about the schools I have reviewed, in fact the Associates in Nursing degree is a full 10 credits shorter if I get it in Tennessee instead of Florida! So far I have taken 37 credits, here are the classes I have completed: Statistics (STA 2023) Human Growth and Development (DEP 2004) General Psych. (PSY 2012) Art Appreciation (ARH 1000) - this counts as a Humanities course for me, which 2 are required for the RN program. Nutrition (HUN 1201) History (AMH 2020) Ancient world- medieval period (HUM 2211) again, another Humanities, this is the required writing intensive humanities course. World History (WHO 1030) another writting intensive course Biological Science I (BSC 1010) Lecture and Lab Composition I (ENC 1101) Composition II (ENC 1102) Intro. Sociology (SYG 1000) (I have A's and B's in all of these classes, with the exception of Nutrition which I took at the beginning of my return to school and it was online, I planned on retaking the course here as it is a pre-req that weighs on your points for acceptance, not sure if it would matter for me up there, if the C would hurt me or not?) My fall classes start on 8/27 and I am taking A& P 1 and Spanish (since foreign language is a university/BSN requirement here) Here are my questions: What are my options as far as schooling close to Chattanooga for RN or a BNS program? I have seen Chatt State when I search, but a lot of other places pop up as well, what are my options as far as public, community and private schools in this area? Is there a school in N. Ga that is relatively close that could be an option? I see that Chem is a pre Req there for the A.S. in Nursing program, so that is a class I have to get out of the way before I apply to the program as it isn't even a course required in the A.S program here!) I realize I will get the most information from speaking with an advisor, I just want to narrow down which schools to speak with about the possibility of a transfer. Thanks in Advance!!

Anyone attending GRCC for the RN program?
So what does it take to get on the waiting list? Is it completitive for placement on the list or a first come deal?

Anyone attending GRCC for the RN program?
Im down in South Florida, but I have family in Grand Rapids. I have heard there is a waiting list - how does that work? Here you have to test in with your GPA and points combined with the HESI scores, its a pretty competitive lottery style process. I have often wondered if we were to relocate what it would be like up there?

Starting in August - scared and nervous!!
you are lucky! that’s great - the program i am looking into will be 5 days a week sometimes 6 for 2 years, with my pre reqs done i will have a little wiggle room and time off for the summer (or room to repeat classes if needed) congrats, to you on your journey, i bet you will do great with it!

Starting in August - scared and nervous!!
exactly! my hubby has the mentality that i’m "safe" where i am now in a good job. but things change all of the time and i keep telling him that. he is like well you can just keeping moving up in your company, but i’m at the point where i have reached the end of my ladder so to speak and i doubt i will get a promotion to any higher management in the future, and i know for sure i am topped out on my pay scale, so the only thing in my future is more work with the same pay. even if i focused on business management, it would not make a difference in my position here. i want to be prepared for the chances that in 7 years if we lose our contract with the county we are located in i will have work. he doesn’t get it. he is so freaked out about the germs, and me getting sick or getting our little ones sick, the idea of me working in a hospital is going to be very hard for him to overcome. the school part has me very on edge. my first 2 semesters he was excellent, i was pregnant and then he was home at night with the baby with no complaints, then he had to work across the state so he lived on the other coast for near 2 years and only came home on the weekends. i relied a lot on friends to help me with my kids when i had class and stayed up late studying so he sort of forgot i was still in school i suppose. now he is home and i am only taking 2 classes this summer, but i signed up for 3 in the fall and i am dreading his reaction to be being in class 4 nights a week - i can only imagine what his reaction to the program schedule will be! he dreaded his school schedule (1 night a week) and when he had to study for major final exam it was the only focus, it irritates me sometimes his lack of commitment to my commitments! where are you starting your program at? are you going into an asn program or a bsn? i say i feel like i’m pushing it off in fear, but i’m close to being able to apply at either. that is my goal, finish up my science classes (i’m only just now getting the last of my basic pre reqs done, bio, a & p and micro) and pairing them each up with a co- requisite for my bsn (spanish, world history, and one more math class.)

Starting in August - scared and nervous!!
your comment about your husband sound like mine. i’m not in the program yet, but i worry he won’t be supportive of the time i will be spending at school and studying while at home. a few times he has made a comment about me working in a hospital setting and possibly getting sick with something (since i am prone to colds and viruses) and questioning me on if this is the best choice. i too am making a career change, like you, i have been working on my pre reqs slowly over time, but it is getting close to application time and i am catch myself thinking of putting it off for another few bsn classes before jumping in. i wish you all the luck - my plan is postive thoughts and focus, with that i should pull through and gain success!

Edison state college fall program
i have not, and the more i have been thinking about it today the more i have realized i should get the practice books and study for it so i can take it right after a & p 1 (which i have heard you should take before taking the hesi? yes/no?) that way if my score is to low i can retake it a second time, and if i still score low, i have a year to wait out before i can try again so in that year i can knock out a & p 2 and micro. i wonder, if i only study for the hesi will that prep me for the teas, i have read some who thought it was harder than the hesi and others who thought the teas were easier? since i plan to apply for both edison and fgcu (possibly depending on if i finish up all of the co-requisites for the bsn program) i will have to test for both of them separately h~

Worried about fall schedule....
i feel the same as you as far as wanting to finish everything quickly. i feel like there are so many people moving up the ranks and getting closer to applying that i need to hurry up and "beat" them to it. the advice i have gotten from all of my friends who have already finished or are currently in the program is to not take micro and a & p together, because as you know these class grades are so vital to your points and admission. i actually started crossing off pre reqs over the summer of '08 while i was pregnant and working full time, so i started out slow, one class for each summer semester and in the fall and spring i took two (i got screwed into remedial math since it had been 8 years since i graduated hs) so those 2 math classes ate up my credit hours i could have applied towards needed classes. i took the summer of '10 off, and this past spring i took stats at a private college so it was an accelerated 6 week course 2 nights a week, i wasn't able to take another class at my school during that class. i took marine bio in hs and my school is requiring me to complete an intro to bio class before i can take any higher sciences. i have been throwing in courses towards my bsn when other classes i needed for my as were already full, i have been going for so long but i don't feel like i am making any progress. this coming fall ('11), i am loading up with 3 classes, finally taking intro to bio, speech and spanish i. the only pre reqs for the program i have left are a & p and micro. i plan to take each of those one at a time paired with another bsn course, like writing intensive humanities, world history or my spanish 2 class. then when it is time to apply i can try at my local cc (state college now) and the university up the road, obviously the idea is to get my bsn at some point so i might as well take the needed classes now. so far, i have completed: nutrition enc i enc ii psych human growth & development basic humanities statistics sociology

Edison state college fall program
I am not a Fall student yet, I am still "pre-nursing" finishing up my pre reqs and some of the classes I need for my BSN while Im at it, I suppose Im dragging my feet in applying to the program for fear of rejection, or changes to my current schedule (Working full time and have 2 little ones) regardless Im slowly plugging away at classes. Currently taking Sociology at Collier Campus for Summer B, just finished Comp II. In the Fall I am taking speech, intro to spanish (I didnt take 2 years in H.S.) and a stupid Intro to BIO class they now require since I took Marine Bio in highschool. Im tossing around the idea of retaking the nutrition class again - I did it online last summer and got a C and it is really dragging my GPA down and every point counts, anyone know if they hold it against you for retaking a class, and what the point deduction is if you do? Have you already applied? Are you at the Collier, Lee or Charlotte Campus?
