  1. I'm sure you are and will be a GREAT nurse. Don't let fear get in the way. At staffing agencies, they'll let you know what's expected as far as your duties. BUT....if you really wanna get your experience level up, a hospital would be the best place to start for a new LVN...especially on a med/surg unit or cardiac/med unit!
  2. btw, i've seen temp agencies as high as $27/hr...and as low as $19.00
  3. u can check craigslist...THEY ALWAYS have positions on there for LVN...i also seen some temp agencies looking for LVN's...also hospitals!!! what school did you attend?
  4. i have a 4.0 and didn't get in. There isn't any waiting list, it's just really competitive. They go by a point system and you accrue more points with more nursing classes you take before you apply such as A&P II, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Sociology, etc. The only prereqs you need are English Comp I, General Psychology, and A&P I. Those were the only ones I had, but i thought with a 4.0 i would still have pretty high points. I was wrong. i just figured, the average nursing students waits about 2-3 years before they get into a ADN program, so i'd rather spend one year getting my LVN then doing a LVN to RN bridge program which is another year making the process exactly 2 years for me. In that time the average Nursing prospect will either still be waiting, or just starting their program while i already have my ADN complete.

  6. Y'all should move to Houston, Tx....land and property is cheap and VERY nice, AND there's a lot of LVN positions here. I check craigslist a lot and find many LVN position available!!!
  7. thats the same as any other school though. If you owe a school money, u can't walk at graduation, can't get ur diploma, and u can't get your transcripts released to any other schools or yourself. sooooo...in all, that's not out of the ordinary!
  8. THATS GREAT!!!!! and yes i've heard of Maxim...i've never worked with them though. i do know that as a temp you'll get paid every week though....most do temp to hire as well. I do know you will need a up to date TB test among a few other things
  9. Temp agencies is the answer! I currently work for a agency now here in Houston. I talked to them and let them know i would be starting my LVN program in August. My recruiter told me that they also employed LVN starting at $27/hr (which i a lot in Texas). Then again i would have a lot of previous experience (former Hospital Corpsman, USN) and i would have worked with the company before. BUT....temp agencies are quick to hire MA's right out of school, MLT's, Phlebotomist, etc so i'm sure they wont have a problem hiring new nurses as well!!! and like someone else said, it's really easy to get a job at a hospital at NIGHT....especially on a Med/Surg unit. usually all of your patients are sleep anyway PLUS you get differential pay for working at night!!!! look into medical temp agencies!!!! I wish you all the best of luck!!!!
  10. i took all of that into consideration, and the medical temp agency i currently work for said they would start me at $27/hr after i complete school. i'll be making about $56,000 a year, so it wouldn't be hard to pay back a $6000 loan. They SAY they don't want you to work, but there are a slew of places that will not only let you, but want you to work with them being a LVN or RN student. I've decided i'm going to be working (3) 12hr shifts at either memorial hermann or Houston Northwest Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant. This was i'll be working, AND gaining experience in the nursing field as well. there are a lot of programs that will also help you with your financial needs upon acceptance into a nursing program. One main program being Texas Workforce Commission. They consider nursing a Hot Job and well help with tuition at the school of ur choice as long as it's accredited the the Texas BON. Many people don't know this, but i've don a ton of research. I'm planning on starting this Aug 3 class...how hard was the HESI?
  11. thanks for the luck btw!
  12. Do they give us a conversion chart or is it like easy conversions??? I don't think it'll be anything too difficult for me. At least I hope not. I'm very anxious about this.
  13. What all does the HESI consist of? I actually go tomorrow to talk to a rep about the program. Can anyone give me a walk-thru of what to expect for the first visit please. I have all of my immunizations already (thanks to the US Navy). I really just want to know if i could actually begin the August 5th class with you guys, or if i'm too late as far as applying. I've also already made a correction to my FAFSA and added Medvance Institute on there for financial aid. Trying to stay two steps ahead. Any information that yall could give me would be greatly appreciated. I've read a lot of bad reviews for this school, but NONE was in any reference to the LVN program. I think people only write a review when they've had a bad experience with something anyway. Thanks, Steven
