I was considering doing their LPN program but I think I'm going to just apply to the RN instead--even though it's impossible to get in. I was told that for LPN your grades on the accuplacer don't matter, as long as you get the required 85 in math you can apply. It's first come first serve. The only full credit general education classes for LPN are Applied Anatomy for Healthcare Professionals and a college math class. I would suggest getting those out of the way. You can also take A&P1 and A&P2 instead of the Applied Anatomy. You would have a better understanding if you could take A&P1 and 2 instead. Maybe one this semester then one over the summer? You could also take nutrition, growth and development, and Microbiology if you wanted to get those out of the way. You can wait and take them in the program though, because in the program they're only 1 hour a week classes, whereas now it would be the 3 hours, 2 days a week type. But as a side note, if you are able to, get as many classes done prior to the program as possible. When I was going for LPN I was planning on taking Anatomy and Physiology 1, Math, and Growth and development during the spring semester. Over the summer I was going to take A&P2 and Nutrition.

Two of the girls I work with don't even wear gloves at the assisted living facility I work for.

I work as a CNA at an assisted living facility on the night shift. It's extremely doable. I'm working 40 hours and taking chemistry and anatomy this semester. Last semester I took history, algebra, and english 101. Most of the girl I work with are doing the same. I actually regretted not taking 1 or 2 extra classes! As a CNA you meet a ton of people in this field, and that'll help you immensely when trying to find a job after becoming an RN. My CNA teacher told me once that everyone knows everyone in healthcare. I can't even tell you how true that is! I also feel like I have a step up being a CNA, I know the field and won't feel like I'm just being thrown into it during nursing school. To answer your question further, it depends on where you are working. Hospitals and nursing homes are tough, but they pay more. Assisted living is easiest and pays the least but it's perfect if you're going to school. Better yet, I'd suggest the night shift. I really only work for about 3 hours, the other 5 I can do my homework and study.

That's the one thing that drives me crazy about this job. A lot of people I work with are constantly saying "I get paid to wipe butts", no, that's not what this job is. It can be if you let it, but for me it's so much more. And all of my friends think I'm crazy for doing it. They don't understand that if you spend two seconds with these people you recognize it's not about that, and that doesn't even factor into my job description when I'm explaining what I do to people. I am a CNA and I don't work for the money, I keep coming every day because I love my job. I think there are too many people who are working 40+ hours a week as a CNA and all it has become to them is "wiping butts for a bit above minimum wage".

Hi everyone, I'm taking my CNA skills test soon and I am really nervous about the technicalities of it. I always mess up on the whole hand washing/gloves part of it. For example here are some questions regarding mouth care: 1. Do I wash my hands before entering the room? 2. Enter, introduce myself, explain what I'm doing there, ask to check name band. (don't I need to wash my hands before checkng the name band?) 3. Wash hands before putting on gloves, but then I need to raise the bed, and I'm told I can't do that with gloves on?! 4. By the end I need to wash out the emesis basin, do I do that with the same gloves on that I used for mouth care? I guess what I'm looking for is for someone to go step by step and say exactly what you are supposed to do, I don't want to fail due to stupid mistakes. I hate the ambiguity of the whole thing. Thsnks and sorry for all the questions!
