  1. Does anyone know what happens if the mandatory orientation for UVic is missed in June? I already have prior commitments ?
  2. Finally set up my netlink ID to check my application. My status says "Recommended by Department" as well. Does this mean I have been accepted? I applied for the post Masters stream too.
  3. Does anyone know if the UVic NP Program's practicum placements are primarily on Vancouver Island?
  4. Hello all, I have nervously read your posts for weeks and decided to finally post since my nerves are getting the best of me. I applied to UVic two days before the deadline (I was undecided about NP, but finally gathered the courage to apply) and I am currently regretting not putting in more effort into my application. Has anyone heard anything at all from UVic?
  5. This is the number in the BCIT directory.
  6. By the way, for those who have yet to book their Respirator Fit Testing: BCIT has dates on July 17th, 19th and August 2nd!
  7. I am starting to get annoyed as well because it seems like everything is going to be very last minute! I want to get everything prepared beforehand .
  8. Hey everyone! I hope the wait isn't TOO tormenting and that all goes well! I am currently struggling in finding places where I can receive my CPR Health Care Providers (HCP) certificate (preferably in or near Surrey). Can anyone please provide any locations? Thanks a bunch!
  9. Hi Taylar, Libs 7001 and 7002 are courses that are mandatory for all BCIT degrees. I am starting Nursing at BCIT in August, but have not completed those yet, so they're not exactly pre-reqs - just strengthen your application!
  10. Cat5, thank you VERY much for your opinion. You've helped me make my decision easier.
  11. Ace123, thanks for the advice! I just don't know how difficult they are or what to expect. As of right now, I'm learning towards taking time off
  12. Wow, so different!
  13. I am in need of some advice. I am finishing up at SFU in April and then starting Nursing in August. However, I have not completed my LIBS 7001 or LIBS 7002 courses yet and I kind of feel burnt out from this semester of school. I can't decide if I should take LIBS 7001 and LIBS 7002 now or next summer. Any advice?!?!
  14. By the way, congrats to all of you for making it past the first step!
  15. Hey everyone! I deferred to the August intake and I was wondering what this questionnaire is? I don't recall doing it at all!
  16. Good luck everyone!!!!
  17. Hi Cat5, I got special status on the wait list on my first try and deferred to the August 2013 semester (which was my plan anyways) since those on the special status are guaranteed admission for the next intake. I was SO nervous as well because I applied with 100+ credits from SFU, tons of volunteer experience in the health care setting, and some of my electives completed. However, one of my reference letters was "average" and I believe that really weakened my application. Also, I forgot to attach a cover letter with my reference letter explaining my duties when volunteering in a health care setting - so make sure you don't forget to do this!!! I'm sure you will be fine! Good luck to you :)
  18. The document deadline is actually January 31st. I was told via e-mail when I was inquiring for you all :). Good luck everyone!
  19. lnguyen, I sent my resume, highschool transcripts, and post-secondary transcripts together by mail. BCIT only accepts transcripts mailed directly to them (as I was told via e-mail when I was confused as well). Good luck!!
  20. SFU is on a 4.33 scale though, I don't know what scale BCIT uses!
  21. Hi, I can't remember my exact GPA at the time of applying, but I'm assuming it was around 2.8 at SFU. I did show a lot of improvement after my 2nd year though (my first two years were HORRIBLE, my GPA is still suffering from them), my grades ranged from B's - A's. I also had human anatomy courses done!
  22. I didn't ask an advisor about it, but those who were really close to making the cut are wait-listed with good standing and are guaranteed a spot next intake if they do not get a spot in the intake they applied for. Also, some people that have been accepted into the January intake have deferred to August.
  23. Hey everyone, I started a "BCIT August 2013 applicants" forum. It was my first time applying to BCIT as well, I had over 200+ volunteer hours at Surrey Memorial hospital, plus more volunteer and leadership work (which I included in my resume), applied with 109 credits at SFU, and had one of by libs courses completed, as well as my psych requirements. Also, I don't know how much high school grades play a part, but I had chemistry 12 (96%), math 12 (86%), bio 12 (88%) Despite the credentials, I still got wait-listed! I'm surprised at how competitive this program is, but I know it is worth re-applying to and that the more post-secondary credits the better. Good luck to you all, and I can't wait to meet the August 2013 intake :)
  24. Hello future nurses, I am so excited to be starting nursing at BCIT in August! For future applicants: To have a strong application make sure you have work experience, volunteer experience (preferably healthcare), as well as liberal arts courses - my Psych 241 at SFU transferred over as a libs course and I will find out if any other courses of mine transfer over once I send them an updated transcript. I am going to be going in with a completed BSc in Kinesiology and Psychology, but a full degree is not necessary, just at least 60 credits to be competitive! Anyone else defer to August?
