Thanks for your response- but why the adversity to Magnet status? I am a little new to it.

Are there any Children's Hospitals (freestanding pediatric centers) who require a baccalaureate degree for their nurses?

I am in the middle of theory and research apps. Sometimes I feel like the instructor or academic coach is speaking a different language! I get poor grades on assignments I felt good about and good grades on things i think I bombed. Does anyone know if there are comps at the end of the program? I know it is a non-thesis program but wonder about comps.

I actually enjoyed Research. I like the formulas, numbers, tests, etc. I loved doing the workbook exercises. I am not, however, looking forward to Theory and Research because the prospect of writing a research proposal just does not seem appealing. Wish me luck.

I just completed my first 2 of 12 classes. I am in the accelerated program. They stuff 12 semester weeks of work into 5 weeks! It is rough but doable. I work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week and still occassionally take off a day here and there. There are a lot of papers to write, discussion boards (I assume you are doing on-line) and some projects. Brush up on your on-line library skills because you will be referencing an obnoxious amount of articles. Then there is Research in Nursing. I actually like statistics but boy was it a LOT of work. My days off are pretty much a solid 8 hours at the dining room table doing homework. Yes, I spend about 30-40 hours a week doing homework. It is certainly not geared toward the working professional at all; it's just accelerated. Good luck and just power through it. Stay focused on your goal. The time will pass whether you are taking a class or not, so just plug away at it day by day and you'll have your MSN at the end of those 20 months. It's 5 weeks on 1 week off. Enjoy that week off!

I just finished my first class in the UTA MSN on-line program. Whoa! It is way intense. "Brutal" has been used to describe this program and I have to agree. There is not a whole lot of guidance and I was not offered any feedback on papers, assignments, etc. I put in at least 30 hours a week into that course (yes, one course) and it was exhausting. I have research next and I am dreading it! I am going to hang in there and maybe I will develop some sort of flow to this and survive the program. They do cram in 12 weeks of a normal semester into 5 weeks!
