  1. since we are on the subject, we, as humans, are not raised as we would raise an animal. we are reared.
  2. Once tried to convince my nurse manager that I didn't want to wear unisex scrubs because a man needed pants with a zipper. Proceeded to go through the motions of having to drop my pants to use a urinal and apparently it worked. Got to wear white pants with side pockets which I have used for my entire 15 years in nursing. Cheers.
  3. Melissa, This message may not be of benefit to you or your husband considering that he has already made a decision by now. (since original post) But it may benefit others, male or female, to know that it is never too late to go back to school to pursue a different career. I started nursing school when I was 51 and you occasionally see,in the newspaper, stories of grandmothers graduating at a late age . Nursing is my third career change and of all the other jobs I have had, the most challenging and rewarding. I love the one-on-one with the patient, whether they are eight or eighty. Nursing is a difficult career but for me it has been a positive thing, especially working with younger nurses and other employees. Some twenty-something female, or males, are very sharp and have nothing but admiration for them and their abilities. And, we have been able to learn from each other. So, anyone considering age to be a factor in returning to school should not be concerned. Best of luck to all who, at some time in their lives, decide to start another career.
  4. I am an LVN working on the West Coast and this year I'll be making over 100M at $30.00/hour and working approximately two to three days of overtime per week. California overtime laws are more generous than other states because the first four hours over eight are at time and one-half while the second four hours are paid at double time. My facility is a rehab and long term care SNF but most of my twelve years of experience are from working in Acute Care and Home Health. In Texas, I worked in Med/Surg, Telemetry, Oncology, Home Health and as an Agency Nurse with short stints in the ER and ICU as a floater.
