  1. Thanks for all the input guys, do you know if there is a number I could call involved in advance practice or recruitment so I could talk it through with someone?
  2. Hello, I'm a Advanced Nurse Practitioner who has been working in this role for 6 years in the Uk. I'm keen to emigrate to Canada but I'm having difficulty identifying whether Canada has Nurse Practitioners in Intensive Care and if they do what their role is. My skills would include central line insertion, intubation, insertion of chest drains, arterial lines etc. in addition to diagnostics and management including prescribing infusions and medication. As far as I can work out Canada has nurse practitioner programmes but they're mostly focused on primary care centres or out in the community. Could someone shed some light on this or give me some direction of where to seek out more information. I really would love to move out there but I want to be sure I've got the career opportunities before spending the considerable amount of money on visa applications etc. Thanks Pete
  3. Thanks for all the help, I was successful :-)
  4. Thanks for all the help! Feeling much more comfortable now. Wish me luck. any advice for the practical scenario?
  5. Did the nmc decide not to regulate or are they still undergoing that decision. The information online isn't clear and it seems to make alot more sense if they did regulate advanced practice. Thanks, again
  6. I think I'm able so assimilate new information and learn rapidly and that is my strongest asset. I will be content with my assessments re patient conditions and decision making because I will have put in the commitment and time prior to coming to that point to ensure I'm adequately prepared and that I have gained the knowledge and experience during the two years I have spent training for it. If I feel like Im not in that position I'd be requesting help and support from someone who has more knowledge in the field be that another nurse practitioner or doctor. ^^ is something like that alright. I guess my argument is that I've covered so much ground in the little time (3 yrs) I have had available (MSC, writing articles for journals) I have the potential to be extremely effective if given the opportunity to learn and practice. Thanks for the help so far Do you have any further input?
  7. hey guys, I applied for a trainee critical care nurse practitioner job which is a training role, band 6 for 2 years followed by band 7 on completion of a masters which the trust provides. Just wondering whether anyone can offer any specific interview advice? Its a new role for nurse practitioners so there isn't that much information out there. In addition to the main part of the interview there is a practical case scenario section too, I am guessing this will probably be associated with the deterioration of an acutely unwell patient and involves going through the usual ABCDE pseudonym. I'm fairly junior for the position but they knew that and have decided to give me the interview regardless so I'm guessing this is something I don't need to be too concerned about? Any advice much appreciated
  8. Is there any other things i could do to improve my chances except my masters and to interview well? The band 6 thing will be difficult as i dont think positions are coming up for a while yet.
  9. Hey all, I qualified as a Nurse in 2008 in the adult branch with a 2:1 BN (Hons) degree and went straight to a non-specific adult intensive care unit. Ive worked there now for 3 years but also done agency work on other ITU's around the UK so have some experience on cardiac and neuro too. After helping out on the wards quite a few times when patients became acutely unwell I think I'd really like to take on the role of the nurse practitioners. Since qualifying I've completed two masters level modules, one in heart failure and one in critical care and also written an article for publication about some experimental treatment for heart failure patients. Basically in short my question is 1) Is it worth studying a full MSC in advanced practice in order to get to my goal of working as a nurse practitioner as often the job description sets this as a "desirable"? 2) Is there anything else i can do academically and otherwise to get closer to my goal? 3) Realistically do I need more experience in maybe another area? (was thinking maybe A+E) Any information or advice appreciated
