  1. Is there a Hybrid program in your area? I have 2 young children (2 & 3) and being in the hybrid program has really helped our family situation. All of my lectures are online in powerpoints, my labs are in the evenings at the school, and clinicals vary from either on the weekend or in the evening during the week. This has helped us tremendously because while I'm at school my husband who works days is at home with the kids.
  2. Hey 2nd semester students, I am a first semester hybrid student right now, will be second semester in the Fall. I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of what the schedule is like for the hybrid students for 2nd semester. What days/times are the exams usually on? For 1st semester every exam was on a Monday at 5pm. What days/times are labs usually on? I may have to find a new nanny for my boys in the Fall, this is why I'm curious. Thanks!
  3. I am in my first semester of Nursing School right now and have an 18 month old and an almost 3 yr old. To complete my pre-req's I took evening classes so we wouldn't have to find child care, my husband worked during the days and would be home to watch the kids while I went to my evening classes. I am in a community college that offers a hybrid nursing program along with their regular day program. I was lucky enough to get into the hybrid program which is: all of my lectures are online, my labs are in the evenings, and my clinicals are on the weekends. This works out perfect for me because my husband is able to watch the boys while I am at my labs and clinicals. I did go on to sittercity.com however, and we found a babysitter to watch our boys 3 x a week for 5 hours each day just to give me some peace and quiet and allow me to study. So I would say look around for a community college that offers a hybrid evening and weekend nursing program. I hope this helps!
  4. I got the books new on Amazon, but I not only got all of the required books, I also got all of the recommended books too. My total for all of the required books new from amazon was $265.26, my total for the recommended books new from Amazon was $281.74. The 2 bundles and the nursing clinicals pack new (they said they didn't have any used) at the bookstore, I also got 2 patches for the uniform, came to $726.98. This was with the 10% discount. So for all required & recommended books new plus 2 patches for the uniform I spent $1273.98. I also want to add this is only books, I didn't add in the required equipment, and I haven't purchased the skyscape nursing constellation software yet.
  5. I got all of my books from Amazon except for the 2 bundles and the clinical workbook that AACC makes. I could get new books for the price of used ones from the AACC bookstore on Amazon, or used ones cheaper then the used ones at the bookstore.
  6. My husband is in the Navy and stationed in Suitland which is a little farther then Andrews AFB and we live in Annapolis. He said his drive into work isn't bad at all because traffic keeps moving on 50 the whole way to 495. We love Annapolis and wouldn't want to live anywhere else while being stationed here, but that's just our opinion. As far as which hospital to work at and hourly rates and such, I can't be of much help as I'll just be starting Nursing School in January.
  7. Well I don't think you will "definitely" have to attend the exam reviews on Tuesday evenings because it says that it's optional. I will attending because I think reviewing what I got right/wrong on exams will give me an idea as to what I may need to concentrate/study more on. I will be attending all of the optional open labs as well. I won't be working though. I chose hybrid because I have a 2 1/2 yr. old and a 1 yr. old and day care is way to expensive. It looks like Thrusday's are pretty much always free, and Friday's up until April. All Wednesday's are free in April though. I bought a weekly/monthly planner and wrote all of our schedule in there. It really helps you to see what day's you'll have free etc.
  8. Me too! I'm looking forward to starting class and meeting everyone in the Hybrid program!
  9. I had my CPR class yesterday as well and now have completed all of my requirements. :) I can't wait for January 18th to get here!
  10. I'm in 849 or whatever the hybrid number was. Did anyone get Hybrid that was hoping for it since a couple of people backed out of it?

  14. Yes it was the fundamentals book that we are required to have that I got. I don't think the bp cuff is required, not 100% sure on that though.
  15. I've bought my stethoscope and a blood pressure cuff already. I also bought the Nursing Fundamentals book that someone recommended getting a head start on. That's the only book I'll get for now though just in case any of the books change that are required.
  16. What scrubs have you been looking at? I haven't looked at any yet, but I'm definitely going to make sure I get ones with pockets!
  17. Well I completed the background check a while ago, and I just went to the school and dropped off my medical health exam stuff in the drop box. Now all I have left is turning in a copy of my CPR card, taking the class on Nov. 12th! So excited for orientation too!

  24. yeah i hear ya! i went ahead and bought the nursing fundamentals book but that is the only one in case they do change. i've heard it's good to get a head start on that book. i got it from amazon, i've looked and all of the books are cheaper on there then at the bookstore. i've also ordered memory notebook of nursing: a collection of visual images and mnemonics to increase memory and learning volume 1 memory notebook of nursing: a collection of visual images and mnemonics to increase memory and learning volume 2 memory notebook of nursing: pharmacology and diagnostics i've read nothing but good reviews about them if you are a visual learner. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_17?url=search-alias%3daps&field-keywords=memory+notebook+of+nursing&sprefix=memory+notebook+o
