  1. My ADN program in CA (NOT rural location) has a last half of final semester preceptorship program. You work with one RN and a clinical instructor will show up and observe, question and discuss your patients (the same patients as the RN you are working with). The RN preceptor will evaluate you and discuss your performance with the clinical instructor. You are not following around a nurse and watching him/her but the RN preceptor is following you around. They will give advice and tips and special guidance if you have never actually done something on a live person. They get a list (booklet) of all of the skills you have done in the clinical setting versus in the clinical lab setting. I feel it is very helpful and am glad my school has one. I think it is 10 shifts (full 12 hour shifts).
  2. Congrats scaredaf! !! Again I accepted at Moorpark.
  3. Thank you!! You made me cry. This describes my Grandfather. He died after hip replacement surgery after yelling, refusing care and being a Pain in the @ss. WWII Vet POW and God know s what he saw. PTSD on steroids. My daughter currently serves. Truly hope this never becomes her. But, they all have a pass with me too. Again-Thank you!!
  4. I applied and was accepted. I turned down my spot at LAVC for one at Moorpark. They have great NCLEX pass rates at Moorpark and it is closer to me. I would use those and opinions of those who manage to pass the program and the NCLEX. There are some who have poor opinions of some programs, but it may be they did not do well due to their own deficits. See about those who did well. I have heard very little of LAVC but wanted a backup program if I did not get into Moorpark or the other schools I applied to. I liked the attitude of the staff at LAVC but know mothing else than that. Good luck on your decision and Good luck in the program!!
  5. The department counselor did say at my application workshop that last year anyone who was invited to test and then passed the test were admitted. All of them. Now, she also thought that maybe fewer applied last year as they were still admitting 50% of the new students from the old wait list. Just try and get a GREAT score and not just a passing score. The trick to passing and doing well is to actually practice over and over with sample problems. Speed increases and you are more comfortable. You also will start to see the same type of questions repeating themselves-just worded differently. GOOD LUCK and hope you guys all get in. My open house for Moorpark RN program is Monday and I cannot wait!!!!
  6. Guilty, I started to cry and was surprised because I did not expect to. I had to apologize to her. She told me she loves these calls. A long long road to this point and so ready to start. =)
  7. There is a very, very happy alternate right now. =) Good luck all!!
  8. THANKS!! Im super excited! They were supposed to send certified mail but they were running out of time and started calling those accepted and the alternates. I know they were still calling today but I believe they are pretty much done contactin even the alternates.
  9. Congrats Meerkats!! Glad you made it and can't wait to meet on the 26th. Irais816- hoping a spot opens up for you. It DOES happen so just make sure you do all the stuff like sign your acceptance of the alternate spot.
  10. Also some of the Alternates may not even show up or sign the paper. If anyone misses the open house then the next alternate (?guess not sure the order...) gets in. SO if you are deemed to be a good candidate and an alternate and an accepted student goes to another college then you may just get in then. Some get called right up until it is close to school starting. Hard on planning but it happens. What were your points and experiences? etc. Some accepted even sign their acceptance letter and then renig after getting accepted elsewhere. SO hold hope and do everything you need to.
  11. Congrats HWells!!! In box me and Artusaofa if you would like with real name. Mrm822 many many alternates get in! You still have to go to the open house/tea on the 26th -right? Did you ask if there is anything to sign to agree to be an alternate? Hae you applied anywhere else? Hang in there-I know it is hard but this can still happen. See everyone on the 26th!
  12. Haha I worried about that too! So, I both checked AND circled "I accept". LOL See you on the 26th!!
  13. I picked up my letter adn signed my acceptance form. Excited to get started and meet everyone!!
  14. If an 805-number calls your phone ANSWER!! lol even if driving. I am going to pick up my letter in the morning after work.
  15. I got accepted to Moorpark-closer to me! I think I am going to accept, just need to go to open house and see what else I need for them. I may not take the test for SMC if all looks good. Huge relief that I am in somewhere!!
