  1. Med surg is a mix of all types of patients...anything from knee replacements to diabetic coma to renal failure to bowel obstruction....it is typically where you will do most of your training, as you will see a little bit of everything. L&D is for the patient in active labor through delivery of the baby. After delivery, mom may go to a postpartum floor, and baby may go to the nursery if he/she needs phototherapy, etc (related to jaundice). Neonatal is typically where the premies go. Hope this helps...good luck!
  2. Hi Trish, I can tell you that nursing school is a full time job. There is no other way to do it...believe me, if it could be done slower, I would have found out by now!! The credit load is decieving, at least hear in MD. Nursing semesters in our RN program are 7-9 credits, but I have to put in at least 30-40 hours a week reading and studying. And I am a faster reader/learner than most of my classmates. Only you can answer your question, but you need to decide if and when you can handle the full time job of nursing school. Good luck, and trust that you will make the decision that is best for you and your family! Ann
  3. Thanks to you both....the ideas are being put on my list for investigation. I did take the Kersey test....I am a guardian! I really appreciate all the feedback and ideas I can get!
  4. I am starting my last year of an RN program and trying to identify a few specialties that I might be a good "fit" for. I am 40 years old (this is second career) with 15 years experience in corporate management, none in healthcare. Chose nursing as I want to make a DIFFERENCE to people. I am a fast learning, and an analytical thinker. I love problem solving and investigating, and if I have to work in chaos, I want it to be a controlled chaos! I tend to get flustered when there is more than one or two crisis at a time. I have always been fascinated with surgery. I already know that ER and peds are not for me, and I am really not that interested in the mother-baby thing. I have done all my clinicals on med-surg, and while I think that is OK, I really think I want something with fewer patients at one time. I like to focus. Any input from you women and men of experience would be appreciated! :balloons:
