  1. I had a second interview with the same person who interviewed me the first time. She thanked me for my thank you e-mail (because she gave me her email and said email was best way to contact her)- so should I/how should I send another thank you? And how would I make it a different thank you than the first time? I was thinking of dropping off a handwritten card in her mailbox. Thanks!:)
  2. I called to check back, but I never heard back from them... but I got offered a job somewhere else, so Im happy!! =) thanks for asking
  3. thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it. And yes as a new grad I will accept any offer- even working all weekends and holidays! =) Youre right in this economy you just have to get a foot in the door (especially in san francisco which is where I am from).
  4. thanks for the replies. What about if you work a 12 hour shift? Do you get overtime if it's a unionized hospital? I'm wondering if a per diem position is worth it if it's close to where I live, compared to a hospital that is full time with benefits but an hour commute. I'm just a new grad curious about random things!
  5. Hi! I'm just curious about how salary/pay works... I know some hospitals pay more if you work night shifts, and some hospitals pay more per hour if you work per diem... So if I were to work per diem on the night shift would I make more than that? Thanks :)
  6. Im from san francisco. Well I hope it went well today! I havent heard anything but I have another interview somewhere else next week in case this one didn't work out. Man, I've been looking for a job for 6months and no luck...now all of a sudden Ive had/will have a bunch of interviews..weird how that works out!
  7. o wow thats great, sounds like good news for you!! Did you ask to shadow or did they offer? what area are you from, if you don't mind me asking? :)
  8. how did yours go??
  9. Hi, thanks for all the replies, advice, and good luck wishes! I really love this website and I'm so happy there are supportive nurses out there!! The interview itself was pretty quick... there were 3 people who just asked "if I could work on any unit which would I pick?" (ER of course!), and why? And then explain some core values of the hospital and what they mean to me. Then they explained the new grad training, I asked questions about the program and the hospital/ER, and it was over.. it was really quick. They looked over my portfolio and told me I would hear back from them tomorrow. TOMORROW! So I'm just biting my nails until then! I don't know what to think about how quick the whole process was! And it's so hard not to replay the interview in my head and think about what I should have said more..but I will remember for next time :).
  10. Thanks for the replies! Good luck on your interview tomorrow too! I will only bring one portfolio (yes I guess I'm starting to freak out which is why I thought about bringing multiple), resume copies, and try to take deep breaths!!! Thanks!!
  11. Hi! I am a new grad and I'm interviewing for an ER position tomorrow.... First.. I have a portfolio (with my cover letter, resume, certs/licenses, letters of recommendation, transcript) but my interview will multiple people. Should I bring several portfolios? Or will 1 suffice? I don't mind bringing a few, I just don't want it to come across as weird. Also, is there any advice for an ER interview? what types of questions are generally asked-- more behavioral or situational, or both? Thanks
  12. Thanks for the feedback- you're right it would sound weird. So I didn't mention it...thanks!
  13. Hi everyone, I am a new-grad and I have an interview tomorrow at a hospital, and I am trying to figure out the right way to mention that I know someone who works there- I work with the kids of a woman who is the Chief of Medical Staff and Medical Director at the hospital, and she told me to mention that I know her at the interview....how should I say this without sounding like I'm trying to brag or name-drop? I just don't know how to bring it up without sounding awkward...any thoughts? Thanks!
  14. I will be taking a Utilization management/review position as a new grad RN. My passion is bedside nursing, but I will take this job because I desperately need one, and I will still be using my RN license under this position anyway. My question is- will it be difficult for me to be hired as a bedside nurse in the future? (I am hoping the knowledge I learn will override the fact that I had not been able acquire any nursing skills while doing UR.)
