BMCC Fall 2011 Applicants - HESI A2
@JFVargas, yeah you're correct, that's the system they use for determining the rank for getting into the program. Zaika was referring to the lottery system used to determine the order of registration for the classes after your acceptance. Also, I agree the process is pretty convoluted, but most likely they are putting limits to keep up with the increasing applicant pool. That, and of course, money. @Zaika, I'm disheartened that all the books will cost $800, and this is just for NUR112?! My sister is currently attending Hunter's nursing program, so I could use her books as she's only a year ahead in clinicals, but I don't know how the class situation will be. And I don't want to risk having to go back and forth between Hunter's textbooks and borrowing BMCC's books from the library (which is what I ended up doing for all the science prereqs. It was such an annoying process). But still, $800 is really expensive :[

I registered for another class that I would be able to keep regardless of which daytime nursing class I get into. Both schedules are okay for me, but I also have higher preference for the morning schedule. My main concern right now is getting CPR certified and paying for all those books! And also getting health insurance as I have gone a few years without any.

@Zaika2686 Did they ask you if you had finished the prereqs before they let you apply? I have heard from others that they were allowed to apply the same sem they were finishing A&PI, but they had also been accepted into BMCC as "pre-nursing", and when I spoke to my counselor she said they fall under different rules as others who are applying. The website was incredibly confusing when they were updating it from the old rules to the current rules :|. If you're not under pre-nursing, and you were still allowed to apply then that's awesome! I would've definitely taken the opportunity if they let me (I tried so many times to apply for the Spring, but they kept deferring it when they found out I was just finishing A&PI.) Perhaps you're right about this rule being phased out, and I was simply one semester too early for them to start it. I'm okay with it now though, since I was able to finish all the other requirements and am now able to take other class for a different degree while taking nursing classes. And we (potentially) get to be classmates! So it all worked out for the best :)

For those talking about finishing prereqs, are you referring to evening or daytime sessions? Those applying in the daytime session have to sit out one semester after finishing the four main prereqs (A&P1, MAT104, ENG101, PSY100), while those applying for evening session have to finish all the other prereqs within the same semester they apply. I had to sit out last semester (Spring '11) even though I finished the four prereqs in Fall '10 because of this rule. I think some people don't realize they're "sitting out" because evening applicants have to finish the other prereqs while daytime students don't. But believe me, I tried applying the same semester I finished the four prereqs, and they wouldn't let me near that application until I sat out the next sem.

Thank you guys for the updates! I can't even bring myself to call the nursing department I'm so nervous. But at least I can let myself relax over the weekend and start worrying again starting Monday. @Zaika2686, you have wonderful scores! I'm sure you have nothing to worry about! :) @johnny_depp23: There are only around 100 spots for this program; if 100 people had 4.0 GPAs, even 3.9s won't be accepted I'm so worried.

BMCC Fall 2011 Applicants - HESI A2
Hello sorry I got caught up running errands right after the exam. Last minute, I searched for "hesi" and "hesi critical thinking" in this forum, and read everything from the past five years to get input on the type of questions for the critical thinking section. https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/my-study-guide-390611.html The advice given by Sisph is incredibly helpful. The critical thinking portion really is all just logic and common sense. It would help if you have access to those books that she mentions or a type of nursing exam questions review book. Also, I must say I scored low on the A&P despite my thinking that I was prepared. Even now, I can say that there was no way I could have scored higher because I thought I was correct in all my answers, and I didn't second guess myself at all. That means my memory is not as good as I hoped it would be, or I overestimated myself. The only real way to do well in it is if you really absorbed the material while you were originally learning it, and I guess I hadn't. Fortunately, I do not have time to sulk about my scores, as I am leaving for vacation first thing tomorrow. I know I tried my best under the circumstances and in the time alotted. My only regret, like I said, is not spending the past 6 months preparing more for this exam. At the same time, though, it could not have played out any other way. So I wish you fellow applicants luck in your HESIs, and hopefully we'll see each other in the fall as nursing students!

I'm so worried, too! Right now I'm pouring all my efforts into this HESI. I've been borrowing the HESI review book from the library, and there was no actual "Critical Thinking" section, so I've been racking my brain trying to prepare such questions for myself, but it'll probably be a combination of math/nursing questions (I just did a quick forum search for critical thinking, and now I believe it's best to use material studied from Math for Health Sci)? I think the best to prepare right now is the A&P material, especially for you if you haven't taken A&PII yet, because from browsing these forums, that's usually the section people score lowest on. Anyway, good luck on your exam! I'll let you know how mine goes -so nervous-

I'm taking it tomorrow actually. I kind of wish I gave myself more time to study, but when I first signed up for it, I thought the fresher the material from API&II the better off I'll be. Now, I'm just getting more nervous as it approaches lol. The only reason I'm concerned about overall GPA is because I've seen many applicants with 4.0-3.9 prereq GPAs, plus considering the fact that my last name is in the latter half of the alphabet, I might not make the cutoff when it comes down to ties. It worried me even more when I didn't see any thread for Fall '11, because then I assume no one is worried about their GPAs lol. Can you tell I'm almost panicking?

BMCC Fall 2011 Applicants - HESI A2
Hello fellow BMCC nursing applicants, Anyone applying for Fall 2011? They now require the HESI A2 (I believe the Spring '11 hopefuls didn't need HESI). Does anyone know what the percentages will be for prereq GPA/ overall GPA/ HESI score in determining the rankings? I'm pretty worried now because I was hoping to boost up my overall GPA from 3.7 to above 3.8 this semester. But finals just passed, and I calculated my grades; I think my GPA is dropping to a ~3.63 because I might receive a C in my Microbio class. I'm considering emailing my professor and requesting some kind of administrative withdrawal instead of getting the C. If somehow I'm allowed the withdrawal, my GPA will become ~3.84. My prereq GPA is ~3.86 (2As, 2A-s). BMCC is notorious for rejecting 3.8s, let alone 3.7s and lower. Should I rely on acing the HESI or should I contact my professor and hope I get the withdrawal? Or is there a possibility that a 3.7 this sem could get accepted?
