Warfarin and lovenox ...trach bleeding
The bleeding was not severe... Her vitals where pretty stable SBP 120's HR 80's pt a&o x4... Mouthing words... The MD was informed by days shift and ordered to hold warfarin and aspirin (aspirin sch in am QD), and cont to administer lovenox... And I agree I think I should just called the md at night to get an official order... Although the order correlated w what I did I wish I had an explanation on my approach or my thought process...

Warfarin and lovenox
Hello everyone I hope you guys can help.... At work I had a patient who was both on lovenox and warfarin... I held warfarin because the patient was bleeding "not profusely" it was dark red from her trach having a quarter of the canister filled and there was some on the foley as well... My thought was the patient is bleeding and though is not profusely if I give the warfarin which will remain 3-5 days in the system he will probably reach therapeutic INR level (it was 1.4) and I didn't want her to bleed much more, i administered the lovenox because my thought was well at least she will be anticougulated until the morning without lowering the INR so much, it only remains in the body 24-36hours and in the morning the primary can decide...I work at night so I was a little hesitant on calling the doctor for it... "My question is was my though process wrong?" I was told that I should have not held it because this two meds have two different pathways, I'm not sure on the pathways but I know they both increase INR. As I'm writing this post I realize more and more the things I could of done and the reason why, but I would like to hear from you. Tnx

Yes it is quite difficult to get a job...& no I did not only apply to hospital Jobs... I applied to nursing homes and anything related to nursing. My applications were not sent to one or 20 but almost 100 different jobs... I applied to every single job that was offer to new grads and even to those who asked for yrs of experience. I went personally to employers and I got shot down, so I'm sorry to say this but my search was not limited to "hospital jobs." Btw I would like to share with all of you that I was finally offer a position. Mayb afer 4 different interviews I was finally able to master the interview proccess. I wish you all the best and if I can do it I'm certain u guys will too. Don't give up and dont let anyone bring u down especially when they have no clue of what us new RN's go through...

Chest pain do you need an EKG order?
It is really good to hear from so many experienced nurses... And as NY lady mentioned "prudent action" is key... Thank you all for this information...

Cedars-Sinai RN New Grad 2011
First I would like to say gongrats to all of u who are now employed... I'm going to have to Agree w the fact that those who got hired deserved it... I know I've been complaining that I'm unemployed at this moment and that there are such limited positions for us new grads but as someone stated here b4 we were all given an opportunity to shine and maybe we fell short per CS standards... I know as I reflect on my interview; I must say I could of done better , a lot better (sigh)...I think everyone deserves a chance to be hired in any hospital if they have the necessary training and they are fluent in the language regardless of their legal status (as far as I know foreign students pay tons of money just to attend our schools they are trying to better themselves as much as we are they contribute to our society the minute they arrive to the US paying taxes on everything they buy as we do) I do however disagree w hospitals seeking for nurses out of the country (for what I heard this is happening currently)... That is all guys just wanted to give my 2cents... Good luck to all of us who are still hunting and great job to those who already have one :)....

Yes it seems like it's happening in most states in the US. What I don't get is why would hospitals be willing to spend funds in out of the country nurses instead of training the many new-grads that are already here (aren't they spending more money on relocation training; what about language, I know many out of the country individuals speak really good english but many dont... Just some food for thought)... And why are our nursing schools not informing us about how difficult it is out here to find a job as a new-grad...for now this thread has been created & hopefully this will give an eye opener to some employers and many nursing students/new grads... I sometimes want to go back to my old school and warn the student body that hey have to brace themselves when it comes to start looking for a job... To request the school to prepare them better to look and lock jobs... Because so far I have found a very small number of jobs for new grads (including versant programs) definitely not enough jobs to match all the new nurses... Although it's been super stressful and to the point of going bananas I HOPE WE ALL HEAR GOOD NEWS SOON. Cuz as many of u im really runnin out of funds sigh!

thank you both for your responses. I wish employers could see that we endure nursing school and graduated because we want to do this for a lifetime. I am not sure what they are looking for or why they think it is not a good investment to hire new grads. if they took the time to train us well, and made us feel wanted that statistic of us leaving our first job within the first years would turn out false.... How do they expect new nurses to stay with jobs that see us as not wanted... if the article that i read is close to reality they will realize too late that they needed to prepare all of us now, and not waited till they had no choice but to hire all new grads and be stuck with untrained personnel. Well I hope this is enough venting for now :0).... On a lighter note I just realized I missed spelled "FRUSTRATED".... It seems like writing unhappy causes many typos.... Smh... Well new-grads let's keep on looking and pray for our dream jobs to let us find them soon....

I just want to vent because I am extremely frustrated. I graduated in sept 2010 got my License in feb 2011 missed most of new grad programs at that time therefore decided to apply to the summer session. I was lucky enough to land one interview with cedars but no offer. I have kept trying to apply to many job postings and about 90% of them required at least 1 year experience. I am to the point of going crazy. Can someone, anyone tell me what do I need to do to get a job. I applied in person, went to small hospitals no luck. I went to long beach memorial and was told immediately that they did not hired new grads. As Im writing this at this moment I get a knot in my throat because if I had been a careless student with no extracurricular activities or no volunteer jobs maybe I would think I deserve this but that is not the case. I graduated with honors, I did all the things I thought I was supposed to do but here I am jobless losing hope because I can't seem to find a job not even wiping butts... I never thought finding a job as a new grad would be this difficult... I keep thinking maybe is my resume or my cover letter but i had those revised by my former school staff... At the end I think I did waited to long to take my NCLEX and that just put me behind. I put my family first and this is what i get (was taking care of my newborn right after graduating I guess wrong move too).... well that is all just thought of venting here.... GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE NEW NURSES WHO ARE LOOKING FOR JOBS NOW...
