  1. Hi! I think they are great! I did not realize how much work it takes to become a CNA. I finished the program a month ago, but I was scheduled to take the State Exam last Oct 2, and I passed!!! After finishing the program, NCNA makes sure that we are ready for the exam. We go to the school to practice our skills and they help us with everything. We had an overall intensive review before we took the exam. Our teacher gave us tips and advised us on how to take the test. I was confident and comfortable during the exam day. I can say that I couldn't have done it without them. By the way, they helped me get a job too! After passing the State Exam, they recommended me to go to a facility who they have a partnership with. I am very happy that I got hired right away.
  2. This reply might be too late, but it could help others who are just starting to get into a CNA program. I have researched schools and looked into the website of the Dept of Health to check which are approved. At first, I just really want to enter a training program and become a CNA. Then I realized I had so many options to choose from like class schedule, tuition and fees, clinical rotation, location, pass rate and the school itself. After spending many days and hours of research, I decided to go to Northern California Nursing Academy in Daly City. The reputation of their pass rate says a lot, but talking to them over the phone is even better. I had a hard time with other schools because they just want my money. Anyways, here's their info - ncnursingacademy.com Weekend and Weeknights Class: Yes Pass Rate: 100% Good luck!
  3. Thanks for the list, MagicHospital. I want to add Northern California Nursing Academy. www.ncnursingacademy.com My classmates come from various areas of the Bay Area - East, South and North because NCNA is the most affordable and flexible to our schedule. Not to mention, the school have a high passing rate on the Certification Exam.
  4. Thanks HouTx! Your input will help me in my decision. Yes, I am from CA. Private schools here are mainly the option to get into the program because Community Colleges are not able to accommodate the large number of applicants. I know, $20,000 is way too much!
  5. I am finishing up a Nursing Assistant Program. I feel good about what I have learned and wanting to keep on going... what should be my next step? I am caught on a crossroad between becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Patient Care Technician (aka Hemodialysis Technician). If you are in the same situation as I am, please read on... I know that LVNs and PCTs have very different tasks and functions in healthcare organizations. LVNs perform general nursing duties and may be employed in various healthcare settings. On the other hand, PCTs specialize in dialysis and work in dialysis settings of hospitals, clinics and long term care facilities. These two occupations have different training requirements. An LVN program costs around $20,000 - $35,000 for a period of 10-13 months. In contrast, a PCT or Hemodialysis Technician Program costs around $7,000-$8,000 for a period of 3-6 months. Nevertheless, these two occupations are alike in many ways, such as Certification Examinations must be completed after the Training Program. LVNs take the NCLEX and PCTs take the CHT Exam. As far as salary is concerned, newly grads from both programs may get a starting pay of approx $19-23/hour depending on the employer. Flexible schedule is permitted. Furthermore, continuing education is required in both occupations. In today's economy, should I be an LVN or a PCT? How is the job outlook for each of the occupation? I think I just need to examine my goals and more importantly, check my ability to pay for the programs.
  6. Also check out Northern California Nursing Academy www.ncnursingacademy.com I was looking for a CNA class in the Bay Area and they are the only one who can accommodate my schedule. I came in to visit and they are very friendly. They told me about their passing rate in the certification exam....very impressive! I will start with their class next month.

  8. We are in the same boat. I am also looking for CNA night classes in the Bay Area. I did my research (online and calling the schools) and the only one that I found to fit my schedule is Northern California Nursing Academy (www.ncnursingacademy.com). They are approved by the State - that's one important thing you need to consider. Their staff is very friendly, and they have a high passing rate on their CNA exams. I am going to enroll in their night classes. Btw, they also have weekends!
