  1. Hello all, This is more of a "freak out" moment for me to say the least. I recently graduated with my BSN and will start to pay back my loans. As I gathered all my papers, I realized that for the 5 years I went to college, I bulit up over $100,000 in loans, which makes me sick to my stomach. I don't have a house, a boat, a car or anything to show for that debt but my BSN. Wow. To add to the dilemna, nursing wasn't my dream career, so aside from being miserable at my job (which I AM greatful to have one, dont get me wrong), constantly stressed, constantly crying...I have this wonderful debt to pay off at 23 years old. I wanted to go back to school (not sure for what, which is more frusterating), get out of hospital nursing (those jobs are hard to come by, ugh..), I wanted to retire one day but all these things seem impossible and I feel quite "stuck" where I am, which is a miserable feeling. Feeling pretty hopeless to say the least...Any words of wisdom or advice? I could use some at about this time. Thanks.
  2. Thanks! I know I don't want to continue doing shift work, regular hours would be nice. I just thought that getting an MSN really won't look that appealing unless you want to teach but those requires doctorates now. Ugh. A vicious cycle. I love teaching and mentoring but still uncertain which track to pick.
  3. I'm just a new nurse in a high risk LD unit. Kinda feel "stuck for ladinos better terms. I am tired all the time, I feel stupid, I cry all the time and am extremely overwhelmed and stressed at home and work. Thinking maybe nursing wasn't a good choice...
  4. Hello fellow Missourians! I was curious if anyone is familiar with support group for nurses around St. Louis? I'm having a rough time now And could use some extra help. If you know of any groups, please let me know! That would great! Jenny
  5. Hello all! I was curious if anyone could explain the different advanced degrees you can get in nursing. And recommendation for a good school? How long does it take? Why does each degree allow you to do extra or allow any more opportunities? I have heard so Manu different things and just want some clarification. I don't want to be a 12 hour shift work nurse all my life so I'm looking at my options. Any suggestions or knowledge is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jenny
  6. Thank you so much! Very informative, I appreciate you taking the time to explain it all!
  7. Hello all! Hope everyone is well! I am brand new to a high risk labor and delivery facility in St. Louis and I'm having trouble with lady partsl exams, figuring out how dilated and effaced they are. Any tips for what to feel for or what it feels like? How long does it take to get comfortable with this because it can get frusterating! What is the turnover rate like in L&D. I just pray it will get better! Any advice is greatly appreciated! Have a great weekend everyone!
  8. Thanks everyone! To those who asked, I got the job the old fashioned way: applying for it! So it is possible, don't settle!
  9. Hello all, I feelverylucky andtruley blessed to have been accepted in a labor and delivery unit as a new grad. My fear though: what if I hate it? What if I come unhappy every day? What to now with a BSN and thousands of dollars in student loans. I guess long story short was that nursing was not my first career choice and I am feeling a bit "stuck" at the moment. I start tomorrow (orientation) so any information, advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jenny
  10. Hello, I am a new graduate nurse, with my BSN, and was curious as how to go about and get my IV certification. I heard a rumor that IV certification is something RN's automatically have. Any thoughts? Job market is terrible in Missouri (especially for GN's) and I was thinking that getting IV certified might increase my chances of landing a job. Any information would be great! Thanks! Jenny
