Tip on how to pass Nursing school
So I have officially passed nursing school!!! It feels so unreal. I have had a lot of things happen through out the course of school, some of which held me back. Starting school in Jan 2013 and after failing my second semester and having to get back in I did not think I would make it out. But I kept going giving it my all, I was always very good in clinical but I did not know how to answer test questions. I buckled down and practice and never gave up. So my advice to those who are struggling please don't give up, keep going, don't take no for an answer. This feeling is unexplainable and I know I wont feel like a nurse until I pass boards but with determination the sky is the limit. **How I changed my study habit, I found out what my learning style was ( I am a reader writer) so I was studying the wrong way for 2 years) I re wrote all power points and notes given to me, on top of putting those notes on flash cards as well. I gave myself time to study flashcards. My test grades went from low C's barley passing to high B's. Hope this helps.

Could this be discrimination?
YES! its not a good feeling at all, esp when you work so hard and go above and beyond to only have your work ethic get over looked by something that's out of my control.
-
Could this be discrimination?
Well the reason is I know its tough to get a job as a new grad straight out an on a specialty unit AND on a specialty unit I actually want to make my career. So when I got the job as a tech in the Level II nursery and LOVED it, I worked hard stood out from the rest of the techs just so I can continue my passion of nursing in field I dreamed of. Just this new manager is the a negative.

Could this be discrimination?
Oh trust me I know I've seen it happen on my very own unit (different manager though) so I take it with a grain of salt.

Could this be discrimination?
I do over think...I just wanted to be treated like the other techs now nurses when they secured their position 3 months in advance. If my manager would have just been honest and not lie and say its a hospital policy. That just seems shady to me.. And a nursing student im friends with my current manager was her old manger for over 6 years and she also verified that she NEVER hired AA nurses on her previous unit only AA techs.

Could this be discrimination?
I understand that and I am going to start applying else where; I was just going off what my DON said about me having a guaranteed position. But the manager that's under her saying I have to wait until someone quits

Thanks!

Could this be discrimination?
Hey All, I am in my last semester of Nursing school..YAYYY! and it has been a HARD road to get here but now that I'm almost done I'm starting to think about working and applying. I have been a tech on a specialty unit for 5 years now and I love me job and would like to continue working there as a RN. I am a hard worker and I know my unit and it shows because the DON for our unit told me personally to go speak with my new manager of 4 months about what positions they could offer me, well I did this and to my surprise she said I had to wait until AFTER I passed my boards to apply:(. At this point I was shock because 3 of our techs who just graduated from nursing school in May were all offered positions in March and didn't take their boards until June. So I mentioned this to my manager and she said "oh the policy has changed you have to wait now". An because she went on a hiring frenzy we have about 15 new nurses on the unit, so I have to wait until someone quits in order to have a position. Well after our meeting I decided to call HR for our hospital just to ask about the new policy and if it was the entire hospital, I was told she didn't know anything about it and its up to my manager and she could hire me up to 6mths in advance and if I was not already an employee there I could apply up to 2mths in advance. This entire thing had me in tears, I didn't understand why I have to wait and why she lied to me. FYI I am African American and the other girls where Caucasian. Is this discrimination?? Also we do have about 6 out of 15 African Americans on our unit as Techs but only 2 out 45 +nurses are African American. (Who have been there for 40 + years) And NONE of the new nurses she hired are AA either.

I passed, you didnt.
And by no means was I prying into her business, we BOTH were very close to failing and she asked me what I would do if I had fail before we took the final, and I let her knw I would re apply because I worked so hard to get into the program. We talk nearly everyday before this and as her friend and sis in law, I just wanted her to keep pushing even though she acted like she didn't care. And I was no way pressing her about it, I asked her just twice did she have any idea what she wanted to do and I was there for her if she needed to talk. And I haven't bothered her since about it, she will reach out to me when she's ready. Or when she decides if she wants to continue to pressure the career. But had it been the other way around I would still talk to her like we been doing even if deep down I felt like crap.

Thanks, she still isn't really talking to me, but it's ok, I'm just going keep pushing on to graduate.- Trident Technical College Merit Placement.
It's hard and time consuming too me. It's a lot of work. I enjoy learning the skills though. Ready to be an RN already.- I passed, you didnt.

I tried to reach out twice since the class ended one week ago, I ask her if she would re apply and try to get in for fall...and each time she says "we'll see" never an answer. So I'm not going to talk about the program with her anymore I'll let her come to me. And yes she may be embarrassed.- I passed, you didnt.
Yes I'm learning this. I'm in the next semester now and it's already a whirl wind.- I passed, you didnt.

Ok, I started my nursing journey with my sis in law, well we jus got finish our first semester last week and I passed (barley) an she failed. Well we both needed to pass the final to pass..she needed a 88 or something and I needed a 72 well before going into the final we talked, she has a bachelors degree in business, me i have just have my CNA an I work as a tech in a hospital. Well she went on an on about how she doesn't think she wants to be a nurse from the things she seen and how she's over how difficult the program is, and that she would just work as a CNA if she failed, and how she would root me on as I go through the program. She would go on about her not having time to study because she has an infant. Ok she has a infant sure but she rarely had her because the grandmother would always have her, I mean ALL THE TIME. And she doesn't work. Me on the other hand she would say I had it easier because my child is older( 3) but I don't have that help I have my child every time I'm not at work or school...and on top of that I work part time 12 hr shifts. I just found away because I really want this, when the family would have something I wouldn't go, I would study. (Which they have something every weekend) And when I would go it would be for a short while. Which I'm noticing I'm going to have to step up my game even more. Basically now she doesn't txt me, I reached out to her to see if she was going to reapply but she jus short talking me which is not her. I knw she's upset even though she tried to make it seem like she didn't care, but it seems like she's mad at me for passing or something....- Trident Technical College Merit Placement.
@mskrisrn I did the merit but didn't get in early with that, did not have much points. But I still started a semester early because people drop out, don't go to orientation, etc...so I'm sure your probably going get bumped up without merit...my original date was fall 2013 I started spring 2013. But still do merit, it will not hurt :)- Passed 1st semester of NS, Bittersweet
Hey guys, Can't believe I passed my first semester of NS. I studied so hard but still was failing the tests, ended up passing the class with exactly a C I had no wiggle room AT ALL this has happen for 2 of the 4 classes this semester. I know it's passing but just the anxiety of having to get a certain grade on the final to pass is not a good feeling at all an I know it's only going to get worst. But the reason it's bittersweet is because me and my sis in law started together and she didn't pass. So it was hard telling her I did....kind of feels like survivors guilt. She has a Bachelors already in something else, and she seemed like she really didn't care to much before going into the final, but after she got short with me when we were talking, like I could tell it bothered her. I feel bad.- Trident Technical College Merit Placement.
@jnlaw It's overwhelming, I like learning the new stuff, but like Kirsten said it would be hard to work full time, I work part time and its a lot.- Almost done with 1st Nursing Courses but i cant see the finish line
@ Kirsten Yes I live in sc.. I go to trident tech- Almost done with 1st Nursing Courses but i cant see the finish line
Yes one day at a time...I just failed my second test so I'm a little dwn I have a headache and I just got off work an have to be back at 7am I'm going to be now...thnx for the encouraging words.- Almost done with 1st Nursing Courses but i cant see the finish line
Well I have two weeks left of Nur 102, pharm, and dosage calculations....Then on to Nur 104, I don't feel like I'm doing to good I'm making low C s and I need to pass everything else...I was told that nursing school was overwhelming but whew... I'm working an I have a two year old...Im jjust tired all the time an sometimes cant remember what days it is. Stressed,it not the word..I'm really hope these 5 semesters go by fast.- just started nursing school now all these bad things are happening.
im going into my third week of nursing school, and its seems like so much is going on around me. one week before school a close family friend died, i miss the funeral due to clinicals, me an my fiance are going through something, like he is just trying to start arguements, school is already overwhelming and i got my first big test in fundamentials on wednesday, that i havent been really able to study for cause my 2 yr old had pnemonia. on top of this today my bestfriend got into a car accident and broke her, leg, foot, wrist, an suffered head trauma. i feel like im being tested. i just dont understand how things could get so crazy as soon as i started the program- Any TTC nursing students or pre-nursing students here?
@carebear I was in the same boat as you not too long ago. I got accepted for Fall 2013 and was devasted/ and happy cause i was like thats soo far away (got my letter in March) but I did the merit and did not get that, but since I was one of the first people to apply for spring 13'( the website had just switched to Fall13' when i did my app) I got my move up letter in September. So there is still a chance you will get in for Fall, just have hope cause I know I was just like you. - I passed, you didnt.
