  1. I am also a nursing student! I tend to me more introverted. Many of my classmates would say that I am one of the quiet ones. However, I tend to be very open, talkative with friends, family and coworkers. Besides the quiet introverted side I can also be out going. As a child I was extremely shy and quiet, but over the years I have opened up tremendously ever since I started a part time job in retail 6 years ago. When I am caring for patients I am able to listen and communicate with them. One of the most important things we can do as nurses is to use our listening skills.
  2. I think it is great that you are detail-oriented and task oriented. I am a nursing student and I always make "to do" lists. I know you mentioned that you do not smile much. Sometimes a simple smile will make your patients day!!!
  3. I think it is great idea to start going through your textbooks before the class starts. I am a nursing student in a BSN program, and sometimes I lack motivation to prepare for the upcoming semester. Everyone has their own way to get motivated and focus. I personally am able to study better in a quiet environment or somewhere that is relaxing and calm. Libraries, book stores (Barnes & Noble), or coffee shops are some of the types of places I like to study or work on paperwork for classes. I feel that when I am home I have too many distractions around me. Also sometime it helps to study with a friend who is taking the same courses, but this should be someone that will focus on studying and not chit chat the whole time. Also I like to sit out during the summer and ready or go over practice questions, but don't forget the sunscreen!:) Just remember that nursing is your passion. You will start to see the light at the end of tunnel! Best of luck to you!
  4. I think it is great that you are interested in a career in nursing and incorporating it with broadcast journalism. I also have a passion for nursing. I am a nursing student in a Bachelors Program and love being a student nurse. Classes are very challenging but it will be worth it in the end. Most programs look at grades in pre reqs and also the GPAs since most nursing programs are very competitive. Most colleges allow you take courses at local community colleges and transfer the credits however, I would check with the nursing program that you are looking to enroll in. Most schools have scholarships just for those interested in nursing which will help you out financially and not have to pay back. Working would help to have some income coming in, however it will cut into the time you need for care plans, studying, and such. Every individual person is different. I do know nursing students who worked, had children, and completed their Associates degree. It is possible to do. Most nursing faculty will recommend that you do not work or only work minimal hours because of the demanding courses. With good people around to support you anything is possible! The best advice I can give you is to look at colleges that you are interested in applying to their nursing programs and meet with an advisor or faculty member to receive the best information. Check out with your financial aid office for advice about what is available. Best of luck to you!!!:)
