  1. I would appreciate feedback about my career dilemma-I am currently employed as an RN on a Med-Surg floor at a community hospital and I am interested in the field of CM. I have met personally with the CM manager about my desires to enter the field and was informed that a position will be opening soon for her department. My hestitation is that I have only been a nurse for 18 months on this med-surg floor and feel that I would be losing valuable clinical experience by changing career paths at this time? After talking with the CM manager I feel that I would truly enjoy the work (my current position is not personally fulfilling to me) but I am unsure of the job stability/security that I have now with being a floor nurse versus that of being in CM. Please correct my thinking-Due to cut backs in hospitals do you foresee CM jobs being eliminated more easily than that of my more secured floor positions and also do you think that more floor experience is needed before a CM position should be obtained. In the facility that I work we must first notify our immediate manager of our intentions to transfer and I would hate to jeopardize my relationship with my clinical manager if this is not the proper time to move. Thanks for your input.
  2. Thank you for the great advice!
  3. I am currently a med-surgical nurse pursuing my BSN and have considered case management in the near future. Can anyone give my advice on what paths I should take in order to find one of these positions? Also is there an exam that I would need to take in order to be certfied as a case manager? Thanks
