New Grad, First Clinic Job advice...
Hey everyone, I am a new grad who just got a first job working in a busy clinic office. The job doesn't call for any of the clinical skills I have learned in nursing school, no IVs, no giving meds, mainly insurance issues, and dealing with surgeons. Is there any advice or good info from any clinic nurses out there or anyone that can make me feel a little more confident about not knowing these skills. Also whats your best and worst situations you've encountered in your position. I suppose I am nervous, if anyone can remember their first job, any bits of encouragement or wisdom?? I appreciate it. Thanks:idea:

NCLEX Anxiety
Im not sure what tutorial your'e referring to, but there is a brief intro to the test that everyone has to take. It basically shows you how to take the test and its not included in the six hour timing. I do have to say that Phoneix has awesome advice, that is exactly what you need to do, focus and take your time on all of the first 75 questions no matter what the clock says really! A couple cool tips that stuck with me about general knowledge that actually were questions on there were from kaplan and this website. One that stuck with me is myicin. Mice have big ears, myicin sounds like mice, therefore, it causes ototoxcitiy. That was actually one of my first questions. The other is kinda weird but its like, anything acidosis comes out the A**, and alkalosis comes out the mouth like an alky(alcoholic). Anywho I know you'll do fine, you can do it, take your time:)

NCLEX Anxiety
I would just forget theres even time at all, and think about each of the first 75 as much as possible, making your best judgement. I bet if u do that itll shut off at 75, and if it doesnt, itll shut off close to it after that. let me know what happens, good luck:)

NCLEX Anxiety
Hey there, first and foremost you are going to do great, really. It sounds like you've studied and put in the work, you will do fine. I just took my nclex a month ago, the absolute best advice I got, and this is priceless, is to spend as much time as you need or can on the first 75. Don't even think about the time, really forget its there. Think about every single question. I followed this rule and ended up with the 75 questions, which took me and hour and 45 minutes. Just remember you made it through nursing school, you will do great:)

passed the boards, but not without struggles
thankyou, yes completely normal, I actually threw up before my test:) One of the best little memory tricks I read on "all nurses" was "if it comes out the mouth, its alkalosis, if it comes out the other end, its acidosis." I keep thinking of an alcoholic, an alky who vomits. Anyways you'll do great on your test, put as much focus as you can on the first 75 questions, don't worry about the time, that was the best advice I got. Good luck

passed the boards, but not without struggles
Just took the nclex for the second time this past weekend. The first time I got all 265 questions, and at the end I was tired, hungry, and completely stressed out. I knew the first time I didn't do all that I should have when it came to studying, but really didn't have the motivation to even think about it, you know we just graduated for crying out loud, and the last thing you want to do is study. But a couple months later I got back into it. I enrolled in the kaplan on demand, and started listening to test content. I thought the pharmacology videos were extremely helpful, they'd point out little helpful memory boosters like, "if it ends in mycin, it sounds like mice, mice have big hears, watch out for ototoxcity." Funny enough this was similar to the first question I was asked my second time around. I also did the www.learningext.com question bank. Three weeks prior to my test I payed the fifty bucks for 3 weeks worth of questions. I only did questions, I didn't read all the chapter review. It was well worth the fifty bucks. With kaplan I did most of the questions in the Qbank, and didn't really score all that well on them, but I liked doing it with the tutor version so I could read the rationale. And when it seems too much I would just do short little 10 questions at a time to switch it up. At any rate I say focus on the "who do you see first" I got a lot of those and pray for the best. I couldn't believe when the computer shut off at 75 questions, I still felt as if I didn't answer anything right, but I did the pearson vue trick and got the good message. So believe me if I can do it, you can too:)

school nurse, biggest challenge/reward
I am a graduate nurse, and yet to get my license. I have always imagined tht school nursing was where I needed to be, but would like some more insight on the daily challenges, rewards, and basic knowledge needed in order to be a school nurse. Is there any one out there that has some insight into these questions? Thanks

all 265 questions on nclex!
thanks for all the supportive comments. It was a little difficult to me because I had not encountered any one who had to do all this over again. Its hard to get the inspiration or motivation for it really, when everyone else in the class passed on the first attempt. I am diving into the kaplan course slowly, but am hoping it will click.

all 265 questions on nclex!
So I was one of I've heard not many that had to take all 265 questions on the nclex. It took me close to the 6 hours to finish. Heres the kicker, after all of that I didn't pass. I am now taking the kaplan prep course and will try to take the exam again in july. I guess i am wondereing if any one knows someone who had this same issue. I am a bit discouraged about it, and am seriously doubting the whole nursing career.
