Thanks for the replies everyone! I've enjoyed reading them. As for the scooter, I think the general thumbs up that I seem to be getting just made the ultimate decision for me. I go to school about 5 miles from my house, and the clinical sites are all within a similar distance. I am well acquainted with the public transportation system here, which is pretty reliable, so when the weather gets bad I have a few alternatives. I have my eye on the lance cali classic 125, which I believe cannot be used on the freeway, but even if i could i don't think i would :/ I've been wanting a scooter for about 2 years now, and I think it's time I finally get one. Not to mention, it'll save me a lot of money! Thanks again you guys. @ImKosher Thanks for the advice. I know, have seen, and am well aware of the dangers that come with riding a 2wheeler. Aside from taking all of the necessary precautions and being careful, there's only so much a person can do to avoid accidents. I'm not a reckless person, and safety is very important to me. However, this is something i've been wanting for a long time-not for the fuel economy or the cheap insurance (thought that is a plus), but because they look like a lot of fun and like something I would want to have/do. I guess I'm not explaining myself well, but as a person who really likes scooters, the thought of never owning one simply because they're dangerous is a little depressing.

I don't know how important/relevant this topic might be, but I was wondering how important it is to have a car during nursing school vs other forms of transportation. I'm still pre-nursing, so I have no idea how much stuff you have to carry with you on a daily basis. The reason for this question is because I am considering buying a scooter within the next two months, but I don't want to invest in something that will be inconvenient during school. So I guess my question is this: will having a scooter instead of a car be inconvenient when it comes to getting to school and clinicals? I know rainy days might be tough, but there aren't many of those here. On those days I suppose I could take the bus, or get a ride. Are any of you guys going to nursing school using public transportation? And if so, is it as big of a hassle as it seems? Hopefully I'll be starting NS in January.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this...but i'm pre-nursing still so I guess this is where I'll put it.. So I applied to my local university's nursing program for fall2012 and didn't get in. My grades are excellent, but I applied with physiology in progress and so they counted it as a C. So now I'm left without plans for fall semester, and will be applying to CC's nursing programs for Spring 2013. I'd been thinking a lot about what I should do with my fall semester since I have pretty much all of my graduation requirements done, and it seems like I should do EMT or CNA courses to gain some experience and help me with possible future employment. But the thing is...I really don't want to take any of those classes. I guess my question is this: how greatly will not having any nursing/medical experience hinder my chances at employment once I graduate? Will it really be so bad if I have no real-world experience? (I live in LA county if that matters-california). This probably isn't such a big issue at universities, but at CC a lot of my pre-nursing classes were filled with emt's, cna's, phlebotomists, and the like. I'd very much like to take a medical terminology class instead, or other classes that might help me once in the nursing program. (any suggestions??) If I did this I'd be able to work and go to school, which seems unlikely if I was to do a CNA or EMT program, and I could really use the money. I feel like I'm not making sense so I apologize, it's pretty late (or early) but I hope someone can provide some guidance/advice or impart knowledge on this lost prenursing student.

I just took the last of my nursing prereqs and also came out with a 4.0 Just one bit of advice though, I would reconsider taking A&P and algebra together in a But i had to take anat and physio separately, so if this is a 2-semester thing and you guys do anatomy first, it might be doable with algebra. Depends on your willingness to have no social life during the summer, lol

Wow, kudos to you for even considering this schedule. I will say though, physiology is a tough course...it changes you... haha, really though, I would step it down a little. You don't want to screw up your chances of getting into your choice school by getting a B in any of those prereqs. Depending on how lenient your instructors are for alg. soc. and medical terminology, this might be doable, even while working.

Do you mean cal state long beach? They allow you to take it as many times as you want and will only take the highest score. However, other schools aren't so lenient so you definitely want to make your first try count. Honestly, it's never too early. If you start studying now just take the test when you feel ready. That being said, I found the test to be incredibly easy without studying, so don't stress. I ordered the study guide online, but it shipped late and I got it the day before I had to take the test. Again, I'm not sure if you mean csulb, but if you do make sure to keep track of testing dates and registration because the spots fill up quickly. If they say they will start registering people at 9am, show up at 8 because I guarantee you that there will already be ppl waiting. Best of luck. Also, i've heard of cc's offering crash courses for TEAS, but I'm not sure where

So if EmilyESmith is alternate 15 with a 9.086, then i'm guessing i'm number 14 (or close to it) with a 9.09. I'll email her right now to make sure, but I probably won't get a reply until tomorrow. To those that got in, does the email give you a deadline to either accept or deny the admission? I'm surprised us alternates didn't get an email. And 30 alternates? Does anyone know about how far down the alternate list they get on an average year?

Correction! I just checked again and the email says i've been placed on a waitlist... I'm guessing this is based on the SON decision to put me on the alternate list...right? Because my grades are excellent and i exceed the university requirements. So i guess this is right in line with what Lavendarbutterfly, that they handed the list over to admissions, right? So maybe we might get emails sooner than we thought...hopefully.

I'm still getting the email app status, which i guess means i haven't been accepted or denied yet

and what do they plan to do when all these extra students are trying to enroll for classes? from what i understand, you guys already have a unit cap

The university should think about giving more money to the SON, where it is actually needed. Take it from the art department, the foreign language department, theater arts, philosophy (worthless majors, should i go on?) who cares from where. It's not like those majors have anything of value to contribute to society in the long run.

Wow, even csulb students?!! At least we know the staff at the SON are doing their job and are trying to get us in, like in Dark's case. I still wish i knew my ranking as of friday.

wait, so instead of being ranked out of ten they were ranked based on teas scores? I was a 9.09/10 but my overall teas was 92.7% and my math was 100%

I wonder if it will affect all transfers equally, or just the msn ppl. Because, if they're going to eliminate little by little (which has to be the case because otherwise they could just send all transfers an email now telling us that we're not in) then it would make sense to eliminate them first, right? because this isn't their program

lol. I kind of gave up the moment i didn't get an interview along with everyone else. Maybe they should have waited until after the budget meetings to call in interviewees. From the looks of it they probably are going to have to do another interview session with ppl who didn't initially get called in. people below the cutoff. people who don't deserve it as much as we do.

wow. Based on the pop. in this forum my guess is that most of the students who got interviews were either CC transfers or 2nd bachelor's students (i'm assuming they count as transfers as well), that means that most of the top 90 won't even get accepted! I remember current students at the interview telling us that we should be really proud of ourselves because the cutoff score was really high this semesters. Now i'm guessing it's gonna be in the 8.? range. But i guess you csulb students should be celebrating, cus this totally ups your chances.

1st week of school?! talk about a short notice! But only a week to decide? that also seems a bit short, it doesn't really give you a chance to wait on decisions from other schools.
