  1. I'm having a complete brain bubble here. I'm taking an online Professional Role Development and have an assignment that is throwing me off a bit. We're supposed to pick a professional nursing role and write a paper about it. Our textbook hasn't come in yet and searching online hasn't helped. Can ya'll give me some ideas as to what the different professional nursing roles there are? I want something other than CEO, Nurse Supervisor, or Floor Manager. Do you think Airflight Nurse, Wilderness Medicine Nurse or Forensic Nurse would fit the description? Or any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  2. I'm new to this site, but I'm glad to hear that you've decided to hang in there. I didn't like my first 2 clinical rotations (med surg I and psychiatriac rotations). Then came OB and I loved it. I'm doing pediatrics right now and I'm enjoying that, too. I also had the opportunity to observe a surgery and was fascinated. I'm not looking forward to my last 2 semesters, Medsurg II and III, but I know I'll make it through them. I just keep reminding myself that I have to do this because that's how students learn. I also keep telling myself that I don't HAVE to work in the hospital. There are so many areas to choose from. Don't let your disgust of one field turn you off nursing entirely.
  3. I am assigned to take care of Reggie a 10 year old male who is admitted with a dx. of Sickle Cell Crisis. His orders are as follows: Admit to pediatrics with a diagnosis of Sickle Cell Crisis. Diet as tolerated. IV: D5.2NS with 20 meq/kcl to infuse at maintenance rate. Labs: CBC with Retic count, BMP in am Medications: Tylenol and Motrin per Unit protocol for temperature greater than 101. Vital signs on admission are: HR 140, RR. 18, with pulse ox of 92% on room air B/P 85/40. His verbal pain rating is an 8 on a scale of 10. This is all of the information that I'm given. I'm being asked several question, a couple of which I'm having difficulty with. I'm going to answer the questions myself, but I'm mainly looking to see if I'm even in the right ballpark with my answers. 1. When preparing his room, what kind of equipment would I want? 2. What safety issues should I consider when providing care for this child? 3. What anticipatory guidance would be appropriate for this child? 4. Are the medications listed appropriate? Why or why not? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!
