Should I take a part time position as a new grad??
So I was just offered a part time position, day shift, on a unit that I really want to work on at the hospital where I worked for two years as a tech. Everything about that is perfect...except the part time thing. I know if I get my foot in the door, I can always transfer into a full time position if one opens in the future. But, should I have kept looking and found a full time position, even if it meant working somewhere I don't want to be?! Ah Help... Ps. I am a new grad (RN). this is a first job for me!

Is it possible to get a job at CHOP?
Not necessarily indicative. I had a shadow day...did patient care...really got along with the nurse I worked with and she seemed to really like me. Everything seemed great, but I didn't get the job. (Fortunately I have other interviews, so I am not too nervous), but yea. Also they sent me the "rejection" email at 10:30pm on a Tuesday night. Not cool...but good luck! It could very well mean that you got the job! I am probably an exception, not the rule!

I am so confused and need some advice!
I would start by going to an associates degree program. They usually offer more flexibility and you can work and go to school. Yea, everyone wants Bachelor degree nurses, but you can at least start working as an RN when you are finished with your ADN program and take classes towards your BSN while you work as a nurse.

Is it possible to get a job at CHOP?
Oy! I hope my outcome is a lot better than I feel right now! I think the shadowing was really good. I got to help the nurse a lot...actually did some charting and G-tube stuff (shh..woops) and helped with bathing/bedding stuff. I interacted with the patients, my nurse, and another nurse, and listened to rounds. I was totally not sure about the interview with the manager though. I could not read the situation at all!! She was very nice, but maybe I am over analyzing things. Hope I didn't give "cliche' answers to her "why do you want to work at CHOP?" questions!! Agh! Thanks for your reassurance though! I can't wait to hear back. Seems like it's definitely a good thing that I got this far! So you haven't started orientation at all yet?

Is it possible to get a job at CHOP?
NursingBabyJ, After your CHOP PICU interview you said you found out right away that you got the job! What does "right away" mean? Like, you found out before you left the interview? I had mine today. The shadowing went really well. I actually did participate in care with the nurse. I am very nervous! It was tricky to read the people I came in contact with. Let me know!!

Is it possible to get a job at CHOP?
Hey NursingBabyJ! I interviewed at the CHOP pipeline interviews on Friday and they want me to come back and shadow in the PICU. It was Friday, so I am waiting for the girl to respond about what days are available for me to come in. But, do you have any advice for me?? What do I do during the shadow? Just follow a nurse or do I do stuff? Ah! I am SO happy I got invited back, but really nervous! Any other advice? And do you think this means I have a good chance of getting the job? Thanks!
