Sound of Music I never have a alcoholic beverage of any kind on the day I have to work. I also work nights. This is a firm rule that I follow.

I was 45 when I graduate with my RN.

We do taped report. One nurse we have takes as long as 25 minutes when reporting on 5 pts. She goes in to detail about everything. Our nurse manager has talked to her and so have the other nurses. She still continues to give very lengthy reports. We now have to try to get in there and tape report before she does or else we end up given verbal because the other nurse don't want to have to wait for her report to finish.

We tape report and also have kardexs. Between the two you get a lot of information about the pt. But some nurses tape too early and you don't know about what happened after they tape. I have walked into a room and found blood hanging that was no where in the report. I had to verify it by checking the pt chart for a dr order. Because the nurse who gave report had already left by the time I got out of report.

I just graduated in May and got my license in July. I am currently on the med/surg floor. There are 2 other new grads working the floor too. We have anywhere from 5-10 pt a night. The thing that really helps us is that we have great supervisors who are around a lot and will pitch in when we need them too. I love med/murg because of the variety.

We usually have 6-9 pts and only 1 CNA on the night shift. The hospital I work at doesn't have LPN's. But have given the CNA's more duties. I don't think this is a good idea. But management thinks that we are well staffed.
