  1. Hi everyone! I've seen some posts about this topic but not with the specific info I was looking for so hoping someone can help. I am an RN in Illinois (so not a compact state) and submitted all my license endorsement application materials to CO a couple weeks ago, today I emailed the office and they told me they just received the last part of my application (the license verification from Illinois) so it's now complete. Does anyone know when I can expect my temporary CO license? When I asked them for a timeline via email the response was a copy and paste from their website saying not to make life decision based on submission of the application, that there is no guarantee of licensing.. I have a job offer in CO and would love at least a rough estimate of when I might have my temporary license! Anyone who's gone through this process and can shine some light on it, I'd really appreciate your insight! Thanks :)
  2. Hello everyone, I would love some input from either school nurses who later worked in a hospital or hospital nurses who either themselves came from school nursing first or have coworkers who did. My issue is, I recently graduated from nursing school (with my Masters, I did a direct-entry program) and was offered a position this week for school nurse. Ideally I'd like to work on an in-patient floor one day, but the way the job market is in my area, it is almost impossible to get a decent hospital job straight out of school with no experience. My question is, do you think if I got ~ 1 year of school nursing experience, that would be enough experience for the minimum 1 year hospitals seem to be looking for?? Or is it not "clinical" enough experience. I know school nurses do a LOT in regards to meds, diabetes management, handling respiratory emergencies, etc., but do HR departments and nurse managers in hospitals see it that way??? The position sounds wonderful and I feel lucky to have been offered it, I just need to know if I will still be able to transition to hospital work eventually. Your input would be much appreciated!

My question is, do you think if I got ~ 1 year of school nursing experience, that would count toward the minimum 1 year hospitals seem to be looking for and I could go work on an in-patient unit?? Or is it not "clinical" enough experience. I know school nurses do a lot in regards to meds, diabetes management, handling respiratory emergencies, etc., but do HR departments and nurse managers in hospitals see it that way??? Also, ultimately I want to get my NP anyway, if anyone can speak on if NP programs accept school nurses (most programs require like 1-2 years of "professional nursing experience") I would love to hear! Any input would be much appreciated!!
  4. I was just going to ask the same thing. On my campus connect, it says I can enroll this week but when I call the nursing dept. to ask them which classes I'm supposed to put in my schedule, they don't know, or transfer me, or give me someone's voicemail. Does anyone have any more clarification in the registration process?
  5. I just got my acceptance email too! Expecting to get the paper letter probably even today (admissions told me they were sent out on Tuesday) but the email says I'm in! Excited to meet everyone else who will be starting the program!
  6. @bring1, during a several-week trip to SE Asia, I spent part of my time there volunteering in a family health clinic in Siem Reap, one of the major cities in Cambodia. I did some unpaid interning at the Univeristy of Warsaw's medical school a few years back too but that was more shadowing than hands-on.
  7. I don't know for a fact that they do, but there are several posts from previous years where people did either get waitlisted or had their applications reviewed way late and got an acceptance last minute. Either way, stick with it! There are so many factors at play in an acceptance, I think that sometimes just an extra successful class, volunteer experience, reworking your personal statement, or all of the above can give the admissions board a good reason to re-consider you.
  8. My campus connect had just the immunization tab on Friday but as of today has a link for "Admitted Students" with a bunch of stuff under it regarding orientation, next steps etc. As far as my stats, I graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2007 with a Business degree, I majored in Economics. Undergrad GPA was 3.4, post bacc is 4.0. Didn't take the GRE. Since graduation I've worked both in healthcare administration; IT, marketing etc., and most recently as a patient care coordinator/tech for two different types of clinics. I volunteer as a medical translator here and have volunteered in health clinics abroad in the past. I'm curious when anyone will get an actual letter! I still have a prereq to finish this summer so I am eager to see how they word it and when they will want to see the last transcript.
  9. I completed Inorganic/Gen Chem in undergrad, then took Anat & Physio I at a community college last year. I am taking A&P II right now which I am finishing this semester in May, and then have to take the o-chem/biochem requirement in the summer, starting probably in June depending on which one I take.
  10. Mine also has a due date of 4-18-10 for the immunization. I completed my Bachelors in '07 so they have that transcript and proof that I already have a degree. I am however still currently working on the last 2 prereqs but there is nothing on there asking me for any more transcripts. I guess since it's not a matter of proving my degree, assuming that I am in, they might just have me show that I completed the last two classes before matriculating in September??
  11. Hey everyone! This is my first post but I have been keeping up with all the posts here over the past week or so. I've been checking all day and literally 5 minutes ago I also had the immunization tab added under my To-Do's! I am hesitant to get excited however because previous years have said that their "Applied Students" tab changed to "Admitted Students." Mine still says applied but there is the Immunization to-do... Natinamarie, how does yours look??
