Hi ObscuredDream and Nurse Julie, Congrats to both of you! I read this thread early last month (April) in preparation for my interview at SFH. Your posts were extremely helpful and I felt decently prepared with the interview questions. I hadn't heard from SFH in two weeks, and was coming to terms that I was not going to be chosen for hire. They called me last week and offered me a FT position. Tomorrow is first day of orientation, and feeling very anxious. Do you guys have any pearls of wisdom regarding orientation, how I can prepare and get the most out of it? Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you! Quirky RN

@ anon695, Thank you for your input. You are certainly right with the HR point of view. I hold myself, my education, and my RN license in high regard, as any nurse would. But I'm noticing fellow nurses are growing despondent with their job searches and resorting to positions as aides and techs. And in truth, it does convey desperation. When family obligations need to be met and bills are mounting, desperate measures will be made. I am grateful to have had one job interview already, and will continue to be persistent in my job efforts. I hope that we can all stay positive during our search and land the job to kick off our nursing careers. :)

Hi blsliter, I was not in the accelerated program, but for my two years at LIU my tuition ranged from $13,000-$18,000 per semester. It might be a little more since you'd be taking more credits in a shorter period of time? As far as which school would be better for you to attend in r/t to job outcome... I think all new grads in all 5 boroughs are in the same boat: Unemployed. Even experienced nurses are having difficulty finding work. One major suggestion, whether you choose LIU, Molloy, or another school: make sure to apply for a Student Nurse Externship/Internship or apply for a part time position as a nursing assistant or aide. It isn't a guarantee that you will get an RN position at that facility, but it will help. The best of luck to you!

hi everyone, this is actually my first post, though i've been a "lurker" for the past two years. i graduated from nursing school this past january and received my license in march. been in a job-hunting frenzy, as i suspect a good lot out there are as well. i'm staying positive through this ordeal, but out of curiosity to my nyc nurses: if you weren't one through nursing school, have you guys started applying to nurse's aid/comfort care provider/patient tech positions?
