Florida Compact License upgrade?
I applied on February 6th and have checked in twice to get updates. Each time I was told it could take up to 30 days, but the last time they responded, they also mentioned, "We are experiencing a very heavy workload" which could explain the delay.

Anyone applying for NCC nursing program for spring 2012?? Any NCC nursing student??
I have a reading list and a few (not all) powerpoints from last year that you might find useful. 105 is the semester where you begin to learn more about the disease process, the pathophysiology behind certain diseases and the priority interventions for each. If it's anything like it was last year, you'll have to do 5 concept maps and what they call a "D record" every week for clinical, which is basically a disease record that includes information about whatever disease you're assigned, the patho, clinical manifestions, any other relevant information, 3 nursing diagnoses and interventions. I remember 105 being the toughest, especially when you take it in the Fall, because you are swamped with work and there are no breaks in the semester. Start studying now. And don't just study the material to memorize, but buy/rent/borrow as many NCLEX books as you can and start going over questions. Make note cards for your meds, make a fluid & electrolytes chart. Although I did well on F&E, a lot of my classmates bombed the exam in which that was covered. Another thing my class also found useful, start a private Facebook group for your graduating class and get as many people to sign up. You can share tips, information, quiz each other, exchange files or notes. It's kind of a lifesaver. Above all, less complaining, more studying. You're all going to be overworked, overstressed and you're going to wish you had more time for everything, but you won't. And in those moments where you spend 30 minutes to an hour wishing things were different, or feeling like 101 didn't prepare you for 105, you could be going over your material.

101 material is mostly taken from the Kozier book, the Davis Drug Guide and the Carpenito Nursing Diagnosis book. Also, buy the Fundamentals Success book. It really helps you prepare for the exams, which are a huge chunk of your grade. Technically you don't need the Med-Surg books until 105 but when you start doing your concept maps for clinical, the more textbooks you have from the 4-semester list, the better. You'll be researching and citing from as many sources as possible. Also, invest in a 2-inch binder, a 3 hole puncher and lots of spare printer ink cartridges. Staying organized is really important. We definitely did not go in order with Kozier. Unit I: "Health Perception - Health Management Pattern" material is taken from Chapter 16, 17, 23, 24 and 42. I'm trying to find you a digital copy of the reading list. It's just way too long to type out.

Whatever you do, do not attempt to do AHS132 or AHS202 simultaneously with NUR101. Everyone who has attempted it will tell you it's a nightmare. I personally know two people who tried to do it last semester and failed one of the courses. And these weren't stupid, lazy students. They had high GPAs going into this. A lot of my classmates opted to do Medical Micro over the summer break between NUR101 and NUR105. It may have taken longer to do, but I finished all of my pre-reqs before starting. After the hell that was 101, I'm glad I had the time off to recover and prep for 105. Also, if you plan on going for your BSN afterwards, you can use the free time between semesters to start taking the pre-reqs for BSN programs which may or may not include organic chemistry, algebra/trigonometry and nutrition. I opted to do that during my breaks when I was taking my NUR pre-reqs.

I don't know the location, sorry, but you can always call the nursing department. Tentative acceptance pretty much means you've been accepted. They'll put you in a room with other students, explain the program to you for about 15 or 20 minutes and give you a sheet of paper with a few critical thinking questions on it. I think one of mine was a scenario about being unable to attend your hypothetical child's recital because of time constraints and what you would do. You'll answer that and you'll be sent to another room to sit down with a NUR101 instructor, they'll ask you a few questions, go over some paperwork and give you a registration slip. All in all it took a little over an hour for me and I was the second person in for the one-on-one.

Medical micro isn't offered during the winter, only during regular session and the summer. It's possible to get into the program without it, though. A lot of my classmates that just finished NUR101 are taking it this summer before moving on to 105. Also, I never saw any evening sections for NUR101. You can apply to the evening program, but the first semester you'll have to attend as a day student. The semesters that follow will have both a day and evening option.

Nassau Community College-Spring 2012
one things. 1- I have to miss orientation (not mandatory but expected, I know) and I have this huge knot in my stomach as a result. I feel like I should call someone in the department and let them know I have an extenuating circumstance preventing me from attending. If anyone reading this could kindly update me on what went on or pass along any info on how to get the ATI program, that would be gr-reat.

@Jodi, if you go over older threads here on allnurses, you'll find a lot of information on the interview process. everyone who gets accepted receives a "tentative" acceptance letter pending interview, but from what i've read, you can consider yourself officially accepted. for information on what the interview is like, here's a link to an old post: https://allnurses.com/ny-nursing-programs/nassau-community-college-500223-page6.html#post4667269 @Julia79lpn congrats on getting in! just a warning, medical microbiology is a tough class and you should get it done ASAP. granted i took it over the summer in 5 weeks which probably made it more difficult, but the class requires a ton of memorization and the labs/lab exams are a doozy (making slides using different stains, lots of microscope work, transferring/growing/identifying unknown bacteria, running a urinalysis on your own urine, and more!). you'll need a labcoat and goggles (both sold in the NCC bookstore) by your second week or if you take it in the summer, by day 2. also make sure your lab partners are serious about their work and are fairly intelligent (as in, not a total goof or shy about things like swabbing another persons mouth). sometimes you have to work together as a group and the smallest error will slow you down. don't mean to freak you out! i actually LOVED this class and love the microbiology field in general now. it is absolutely fascinating.

at the risk of sounding bitter i have to say, i'm extremely baffled as to why, after 3 months, no one can definitively say "you've been rejected" whenever i call or write. i would be more than glad to move on and put this all behind me but since nova was my top choice, i've been foolishly clinging onto the tiniest inkling of hope that it's still a possibility all this time. maybe not after wednesday... i got accepted to another program today that i applied to at the end of october. 1500+ applicants per semester and it took them exactly 30 days to get back to me. well here's to hoping you and everyone else who hasn't heard back either receives some good news in the very near future or at the very least, keep your heads up and keep submitting those applications. it's a struggle, but it's worth it. i should know, i come from a family of nurses.

The woman who I spoke to in Admissions told me I would be notified via my NCC student e-mail. I asked her repeatedly if this holds true for those applying to the Nursing program as well and she said yes. I'm not sure if it's the same for people who aren't already enrolled in NCC. Guess we'll just have to wait and see! Good luck.

when i emailed last week about rejection letters, this was the response i received: "we hope to have admissions decisions made soon. we will send you a letter in the mail with the final decision. thank you for your patience. " i don't know how soon is soon, but a week later, still haven't received anything either. honestly, i've given up stressing out over it, but feel free to give them a call and get a more current update on the process. if it makes you feel any better, like i already mentioned before, if you read older threads on this forum about nova, people were getting accepted up to 6 weeks after the first e-mails went out. also, a lot of applications get deferred to the next semester due to the sheer volume received.

i was told that notifications of acceptance are delivered via e-mail and we can expect decisions sometime around thanksgiving. i also applied, did my prereqs at NCC and have a 4.0. i'm pretty sure they want all of your prereqs completed or at least in progress by the time you submit your change of program, but i actually had a classmate in my A&P II class that was already in the nursing program. he used to tell me particularly awful stories about his clinicals in huntington, like how a student in his cohort contracted MRSA from a patient. yikes! well, good luck to you all.

when did she get the letter? i'm trying to stay optimistic, but i'm running out of time so i'm starting to plan around the other program i got into. i guess i'm just confused. i have a 4.0 in my prerequisites so you'd think i'd be a shoe-in but now i'm thinking there's a possibility one of my classes didn't transfer over. i did some digging into older threads on allnurses about applying to nova for previous semesters and i noticed that in some cases, people were getting accepted up to 6 weeks after others announced that they'd gotten their emails. so who knows?
