Finding travel buddies for vacations as a TN?
Wondering, of those who love to take personal travel vacations between contracts, both domestic and international, do you go solo? I am finding it very hard to find travel buddies who have enough flexibility at their job to take 2-3 weeks or even a month off. I normally enjoy solo, but sometimes I'd like to have a partner join me. Anyone have thoughts on this? Do you find other nurses to join? Are there sites to find travel buddies? Thanks!

Coffee marketed to nurses. Would you buy it?
I have 5 validation studies going right now on different online and in-person avenues, so yes, very important to get as big a sample of the population as possible. All of your comments are much appreciated and insightful.

Thank you for your comments. My intent has actually been to provide more information based upon the responses. I love hearing everyone's response whether it be negative or positive. I have heard the word "gimmick" used by a few members and I wanted to clarify my thoughts so that members understood the full picture. This probably should have been explained in the initial post, but I wanted to hear as many honest answers as I could, and then respond with follow up of "ok, but what if you now have new information? Would that change your initial response." If anyone would care to respond to my most recent post above, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Coffee marketed to nurses. Would you buy it?
Thank you for your thoughts. Last question: What if the coffee company platform was to provide recognition to the field of nursing? The packaging not gimmicky, but very professional and informative. Clever bean blends from fair trade international importers and many different regions. And $1/bag donated to Nurses Beyond Borders and other international nursing causes? What I'm getting at is, if the company was well represented and supported the nursing community as a whole, and was a quality coffee brand competitor, would you still consider it a "gimmick?" Secondly, if the concept of purchasing it for work consumption is not of interest, would it be of interest to purchase as an avid coffee drinker at home; and with the understanding expressed above: it's a coffee company platform that is community-oriented and supportive of the nursing field around the world? Thank you for your responses.

What if the coffee brand was very good coffee and for a competitive price? Would you then lean towards purchasing it, because it expressed recognition for the nursing field? Or would you not consider purchasing outside coffee in general, as it is not important to you? Or for other reasons? Thanks!

What is your logic regarding this statement? Could you explain why you would feel gullible? Thanks!

Coffee marketed to nurses. Would you buy it?
Hi fellow nurses and those aspiring to be, I have noted through the years, that most nurses are none too pleased with the hospital coffee we are privy to drinking while on shift. Many times, when a fellow co-worker, or even a patient's family member, brings in a bag of specialty coffee for those on shift, I've seen staff get pretty jazzed. Even for just five minutes of time drinking some yummy brew, staff gets excited and there's potentially a mild increase in morale for a short time. Anyone else feel this way? My question to all of you: If there was a coffee brand marketed specifically to nurses in some way, and the flavors and beans were high quality, etc., would any of you be willing to purchase it (or put money in for it as a group) for use during shifts? Or try and get the hospital or your facility to purchase it once a month? Thoughts? Concerns? Desires? Waste of money? Thanks!

URHopeful, Haha, actually yearrrrsss ago a friend of mine who was in this band that liked to basically rock out and break things, decided to give everyone a pirate name. My name is Megan, so peglegmeg was born :) I've found it quite funny and have held on to it through time. If I ever actually do lose a leg, I'll have a wooden pegleg crafted. I'll hallow it out and put change and lip gloss and such inside. Thanks for the compliment!

Yes, I interviewed back in early March and they asked me what my current prereq. grades were at that time. They need to make sure you aren't getting low C's or something in which case you might be overpassed by another solid candidate. Good luck everyone! If 60 candidates out of 200 is the acceptance count, than the percentages are even more in everyone's favor! -Megan

Hey, guys! I posted awhile ago...been super busy, work, preqreq's, blah blah. I think someone asked me a question awhile back, but I only have time to pop back on here, so I'm sorry to whomever; I'll get back to you next time I think the decision making on UR's part is somewhat going day by day as they assess their candidates. I'm sure many people will hear different answers as to when letters will go out. Except for the people who have to make a decision very soon regarding other schools, it seems we all need to just sit back and wait for June, late May, whatever. Time moves fast! In regards to 300 or so candidates, you always have to factor in incomplete applications, people who are obviously unqualified (in that the requirements of admissions are not met despite what the candidate thinks), those who don't meet school academic/writing/interview standards, and those who may decide on another school in the meantime and recant their application packet, etc. So, that knocks a lot of people out of the running. I recently had to place an ad for a qualified manager position in the health field, and many of the resumes I received were horrible! That being said, not to make anyone feel uncomfortable or to sound superior, but there are a lot of "desperate's" out there and people who just don't meet the cut. The unemployment arena is still poor out there, despite some upswing, so there will be people who deem this a great time to just go back to school or just change careers...this could be good or bad in terms of more qualified applicant's, but there is still a percentage in your favor. Have confidence, and if you don't get in, apply for the next semester and be sure to ask UR how you could improve you appl. packet. Okay, now if I can only follow my own words of advice! Good luck everyone, until we speak again!! :)

Hey, Syberian Pup! Thanks, yes, my friend years ago decided to give everyone pirate names, and mine became peglegmeg! I did a phone interview; went very well. My stats range from 3.6 Bach GPA; still working on prereq's; about a 3.4 GPA with that right now. I'm female, mid-thirties. 34, actually, as today is my birthday :) I worked as a funeral director/embalmer for awhile and now work in a lab doing cancer diagnostics. My background is in film and legal research, however. I think Rochester looks for diversity and interdisciplinary mediums, so I'm sure everyone has something neat to offer :) It'd be nice to have a good mix of men and women in the program! Where do you hail from?

Hi all, ABPNN candidate from the west coast, California. I'm an applicant for Sept. 2011 as well. Just had my interview this last Tuesday. I've been poking around on this site for awhile now, and finally have something to post about! :) Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and see how the other Fall 2011 applicants are getting along. I know it's stressful waiting to here back about acceptance or not, but I've accepted the fact that I've done my best and all I can do is sit back and wait to see the results. Good luck everyone! -Megan
