I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, actually some people think were part of Canada but we aren't. We do sound like them though...ehh. The nursing home facility I work in now is the facility I worked in as a CNA. They hired me as an LPN when I passed my boards. I'm just afraid 'my ship will pass' if I don't try to find a job at a hospital after I graduate. It's just I enjoy were I am now, but in the future I know I'll want to move on.

I'm looking for some direction. I currently work in a nursing home as an LPN and I'm graduating from the RN program in May. I enjoy working at the nursing home i'm at but I might want to move on to something else in the future. I'm told that nursing home experience doesn't count for much on an application. So I'm afraid if I stay there and want to move on to a hospital setting I will have a hard time getting a job. I'm told that I have a better chance getting a job as a newly graduated RN. Right now all I hear is about how bad the economy is and how most hospitals are not hiring. Actually, a new RN who started at the place I work told me "Good luck finding a job right now." Apparently she had worked at a hospital and they began laying people off. I'm gonna put my application out there at see what happens, but is it true that nursing home experience doesn't count for much? Is it safe for me to wait until I want to move on to a hospital or should I just go for it because I'll be a newly graduated RN now and if I don't do it now I most likely won't get another chance?
