  1. Wow guys thanks for the awesome question and answer. I have been wanting to do CNRA since high school and seeing as though being an ICU nurse and working on the xs and os of getting into school now made me want to check on WHY I am doing this. Thanks again for your help. At Loveanesthesia or whoever wants to answer, clarifying your "community hospital hours" I work 3 12's plus an avg of an OT shift/week and was hoping that with CRNA I would be able to transition to a lifestyle of working overall less than I do now, thereby having a little more time for my wife and future kids. I would not mind having to stay late on the days I do work as long as I could potentially have more weekend time off (my current California hospital requires 4 weekend shifts/month) Could you guys explain a little more how surgery hours work for you guys, on call etc? Thanks for your help.
  2. I would take it if you plan to progress to BSN, and if you do not have to pay alot of money for it.
  3. Thanks guys, TIWRN, that is a great way to look at it. I will definitely use what you said if they ask me that question whenever I get an interview. We have a bunch of different clinicals as well: Fundamentals (LTC), ADH1, Gero, Psych, Peds, OB, ADH2, community health, and complex care. That must be another way of doing it. So there are schools that don't have 9 different clinicals for their students. Got it.
  4. For my school, we have the 2 yr pre reqs that consist of lots of science like anatomy, organic chem, and some psych and others. To actually get into our program we have to be critiqued by our overall GPA, science GPA, TEAS test, and credits at the university. And science credits can no longer be taken at a community college. Our program went from something like 500 students declaring "nursing" as their major in 2004 to like 1200 in 2007, and thats still 4 yrs old. I agree with the above I think it is inhumane for programs to do that strictly on GPA. I know other schools have waiting lists as well incorporated somehow. I think with the 1. however many million nurses they are supposedly going to need when the baby boomers retire, there is going to be some major reconstruction of nursing programs... AND healthcare for that matter
  5. Try giving yourself more awards and breaks. Plan ahead a day where you can get away from it all. These are important to me when I am feeling oversaturated. I have 9 months to go still though. I agree with you on the meds. Other ways before that. Dont want to act like I got it all figured out myself...
  6. I tried to search around to see if this had already been talked about but could not find it. My nursing school has no preceptorship for the last semester of school. How much of a disadvantage is this? Its a BSN program too... Does anyone else have programs that don't offer preceptorships? Seems like everyone has those for the last semester. thanks for the help
