University of Kansas- CRNA interview tips please!!!!
If you read my 1st post I stated that KU gives you excellent clinical experience. You are used as staff. As stated by the other poster a staff doc literally put their hands on a student while I was there as well and nothing was done to the doc. A 2008 graduate killed themselves. It wasn't the first. If you look at the 05 class literally they all left but 4 or 6 of them. In 2006/2007 the program was investigated and on probation. Maybe it has been cleaned up. Laplace can probably awnser that as her post is the most current.

I hope your friend wins her lawsuit!!!! I wasn't impressed with their attorney (Jay at the time). My attorney was by far better. Wish there was a way to PM you. Congrats on finishing that hell hole.

Laplace did you get booted? Or a close friend of yours get booted? Second your opinion, only use KU as an absolute last resort. A lot of inbreeding...and since thier requirements are so low they get a lot of the bottom of the barrel. Overall they should be discontinues as a program. It is horrid.

AC Yes, my opinion of KU is the same. I would NOT recommend the CRNA program AT ALL!!! However, as there standards for acceptance has dropped over the recent years, acceptance is much easier. The link below shows a current ranking of CRNA schools. KU proper is #59 out of 77 schools! I would say start looking at the top 50% or 35 school would better suit a student entering a program. The schools are ranked over many catagories. US News also has CRNA school rankings in which KU was also in the 50's. http://whichuniversitybest.blogspot.com/2009/08/top-nursing-anesthesia-schools.html Good Luck to you!

I am a CRNA and graduate of the 2010 class. The University of Kansas prepares you clinically very well. It is trial by fire when it comes to the operating room. The OR hours are LONG. If you look at how the program is set up, by your second year all of the courses are on-line. This allows you A LOT of time in the OR or at least allows the SRNA's to STAFF the OR instead of getting weekly lectures. Just think twice about a program that MUST staff the OR for the OR to function! In this case, bigger isn't better. By the end of the THREE years they had to REQUIRE myself and my classmates to attend graduation...or very few of us would have gone. I think that in itself, speaks volumes! There is a reason K.U. is not ranked in even the top 25 for CRNA schools to attend - and is one of the easier schools to gain admission to... On the flip side, CRNA school is a means to an end, and so long that at the end you are a CRNA, that is what is most important!!! GOOD LUCK to you in your interview next month!

Do NOT go to KU for anesthesia school! Accept a different school if you can. They almost lost there school of anesthesia for how they treated students in 2007. After that they will pretty much take anyone and the quality of student has dropped BIG TIME! If you like to be a slave...this school is for you!

CRNAs in Colorado
Denver is a tough market. Texas has a lot of job oppertunities as does the midwest and east. There are jobs here but they are few and far between. Colorado is a VERY MDA ran state and with most groups you do not get the autonomy you would in other places. Colorado did just opt-out, however the opt-out does not include city/metro areas and the MDAs have filed a lawsuit against it. Hope you can find something. Best of luck to you in your search.
