Tulips, the other posters gave some very good advise. I agree it doesn't mean your a bad nurse. The important thing is you learned from your mistake. I've known some very good nurses who have made mistakes.....ie giving blood to the worng person... priming a line with dopamine. Things happen I'm sorry your feeling so bad.

Try NorthWestern Hospital its downtown. I've never tried to find an apartment downtown but hear its very expensive. Northwestern does have some housing for employees but I have no idea how long the waiting list is.

I found the recruiter I talked to very pushy. She even called my work for a reference without my permmission and I hadn't accepted an assignment. I didn't even fill out an application just mentioned the name of the hospital I worked at.

My personal preference would be AirForce. I spent 9 years in the Navy and my son is in the Airforce and I'm impressed with their housing lifestyle etc...I work with an Army reservest and some of the things she tells me makes me glad I didn't go army.

I agree with you there. Took me 4 years to get my ADN. I regret not just going for my BSN. I've been saying for years now that I'm going back for my BSN but with work family dogs etc......I never get around to it. I usually just recommend to go streight for the BSN. A BSN will open more doors not that there is anything wrong with ADN nurses.

It is beautiful. When we moved from WA state to WI we traveled through Montana. I almost wanted to stay and homestead. That was 9 years ago and we're looking to move again... Montana came to mind. I'd like to know about the wages and cost of living in this area also.

Have you tried New Balance? I have a pair of New Balance and a pair of Rockports that I like a lot also. My husbands podiatrist recommended the Rockports which made to want to try them. Very comfy however I don't know if they would work for your short wide feet. They seem to run narrow. Normally I wear an 8M but my Rockports are 81/2 wide. My vote for you would be New Balance.

OK.....Learn something new everyday. I'm not new to nursing but didn't know an FBI check was done on my liecense. I can understand the drug check.....criminal check.....employment history....and I can understand an FBI check. Anything more then that is just creepy.

Well they are supposedly sending me some paperwork to fill out so I'll see...if this is true about the heavy hand I don't think I'll accept the position. I don't want to work under a microscope. Thanks for your response.

That must be what they are doing on me. They said they are doing a check back 7 years and a credit check. I already gave them personal references and have nothing really to hide. My nurse manager and I have some personal issues so hope they don't call her. My evals were good though so hopefully that will be good enough.

Sounds like the house that is for sale across the street from me here in Wisconsin. They are asking $145,000. You can't buy a vacant lot here for 35K. What part of Kansas are you from? I was born in Kansas and have a lot of relatives there. Sheri

i don't see a lot of money in travel nursing either. so far i haven't found anything worth leaving my husband and dogs for. i guess if i went to california or something and stayed in their housing. my 20 year old son just left for the military so i thought i'd travel around a bit to try and find another place to homestead. i'm looking at texas or arizona. we are in wisconsin now and the weather really bothers my husbands arthritis. $15.00 dollars an hour is a joke. i made more money then that in mid 90's as a new grad.

I knew housing was cheaper but I guess I was expecting about 24-25 dollars an hour which is still a lot less then what I'm making in Chicago. Thanks for your response

I'm a ccu nurse with about 9 years experience and was offered a position in a San Antonio hospital (travel nurse) for $19.00 an hour. I just about fell over. Are wages that low in San Antonio?

I'm sorry.......whats a doula? As far as developing a thick skin.......I don't know if this is being thick skinned but I've learned to very calmly tear new buts to rude doctors.

I'm not an ER nurse but when a tech from my unit floated to the ER she told me she was doing triage. Just curious is this normal? I told the tech that I felt this was out of her scope of practice and for everyones good please don't do this. When I brought this up to the ER manager was told in a nut shell that it was OK. Is this right?

I knew about Miranda.....it doesn't say "everyone" is entitled to a free lawyer. So once you loose your house job and car you get a free attorny to prove your not guilty. Doesn't look like to me from the Miranda rights "everybody" is entitled to a free attorny. Well he lost his job due to spending 4 mos in jail with absolutely no evidence against him... his house and car will be gone soon...... then he gets a "free" lawyer. Sometimes I wonder why my husband and I work as hard as we do.....because everything would be free if we didn't.

I honestly didn't know that and was serious about my friend going bankrupt. He's paying a lot of money for a lawyer for an accusation of child sexual assault. You'd have to know the whole story I honestly believe he didn't do it. But like I said earlier he's having to prove his innocence.

I didn't know we all are entitled to FREE lawyers. I need to tell our friend who is going bankrupt due to false accusations. Its more of a guilty until proven innocent system.

I had a Dr start an internal investigation on me because his patient went into renal failure. Long story short... I was working on a Sunday and the nephrologist was covering for someone else. A patients Gent level came back high so the Dr lowered the dose. OK... I was at a code when the lab values came in so the Dr actually told me about this and he had lowered his dose of Gent. Pharmacy calls me and says dose isn't low enough for his lab values... I call the Dr (thank goodness charted it)......he didn't want to change it... later I called him again....are you sure?? Yes he says I'm not changing it... Pharmacy calls him tells him they don't agree with his dosage... Dr doesn't care he doesn't want it changed. Pharmacy calls me and says go ahead give the dose after talking to Dr. Next morning the Dr comes in that has this patient and immediately has my supervisor call me at home (she is in tears) telling me Dr so and so wants me fired for not informing his partner of the lab work.....the paperwork has already been started for the internal investigation. Well needless to say nobody bothered to look at the chart to see he was notified.....in fact the other Dr had it in his own hand writing in the progress notes about the lab work and what he did about it. Well......the doctor got his partner into a lot of trouble. This was my first couple months of working ICU. My mistake was thinking....Well he's a Nephrologist he must know what he's doing. You know it was automatically the nurses fault. Don't even look at the chart Drs can do no wrong.

I agree with you there. It should definitely be reported but maybe thats as far as it should go. I'm a big believer that a person is innocent until proven guilty. We had a case in a near by hospital where a male nurse was convicted lost his liecense and sent to jail because a patient said he malested her. He claims he's innocent, the female pt was a tele pt and no changes in the EKG when this supposedly happened. Didn't matter in the county I live in guilty until proven innocent. So basically he lost everything on her word alone. Another case very similar is happening to a friend of ours that is a teacher. This man is being convicted on the word of a 14 year old girl. This young girl has a hx of mental illness and I know this man being accused. In my heart I don't think he did it. He lost his job spent 3 mos in jail and is out on bail now until his trial in July. When I was in the military two female recruits reported a male instructor of touching them inappropriately... he was busted in rank and dishonorably discharged. One of the girls later stated she lied... little late. His reputation and marriage and career were ruined. I had a friend about 10 years ago... single mom. Dad in jail supposedly for molesting the daughter. After knowing her for a while she opened up and said what happened. The husband confided in a friend that he had a dream about the daughter. Was sent to prison. Now as sick as that may sound he never touched the girl but was sent to prison. Mom got a lot of special privlidges at work that no one knew about but me (I didn't work with her). Longer story then that.....but thats it in a nutshell. Look what happened in the 80's with the childcare center in North Carolina. I really don't think once all the evidence was laid out anything ever happened. The sad thing about all this is......I believe abuse really does happen. What really gets me though its almost like a witch hunt here in some places. If I was the mother of an abused child or an abused child myself.... I'd me just as angry at the people wrongly reporting it as to the person commiting the crime. Bottom line the system may be set up that 10 guilty people get sent free rather then 1 innocent person be convicted but it sure doesn't work that way. I think its terribly sad.

I agree with you mattsmom and thats exactly what went through my mind. I've seen that kind of thing ruin peoples lifes.
