LizzyL, the support classes that you will be taking in Spring 2012 will not count towards your point total for admission. The deadline for Fall application is generally around March or April, which means the rules will only allow completed courses.You are correct in stating that the program at BHC is fairly competitive, however it is not impossible with hard work and a sound strategy. If you really want to still make the fall 2012 class then you should strive to get a very high HESI score, because this could offset not gaining those support classes you'll be taking in spring 2012. If you are only missing 2 support classes, make sure they are not both 2 point classes like AP 2, Micro, Patho, or Pharma, because 4 points would be difficult to make up. I would guess you would need to make at least a 93 or above on the Hesi to replace the 2 or 3 points you would miss from those support classes. It is good that you are thinking about the path you want to take, just keep in mind that each class has been different but there are common factors to successful entry like 90 or above Hesi scores and most support classes completed at the time of your application. Did everyone get the e-mail message from BHC about success camp, physical exams, and background checks?

MJcruiser...Do not give up just yet, there may be a small chance that you could make it in as an alternate. I say this, not to give you false hope, but because with BHC taking in 60 there could be a chance that a few students attend elsewhere...So Maybe if 3 or 4 people decline the offer(not impossible), then you might be in the top 5 of alternates...I'm just guessing, but I think the entry level score was probably right at 30..Forget about the 3 points(that is history))...So If you have maybe a 29.xx score...then you never know what coud happen... If that window closes then you will definitely make it with the spring 2012 class..My advice would be that you should not take the HESI again, with a 94+ you are near the top of the food chain(take no chances with a score like that)...and as you finish your support classes you will round out with a score around 34 or 35..which will gurantee your admission next spring..Best case scenario-you become an alternate...worst case- you start nursing school 5 months later(Jan. instead of Aug/Sept)..stay positive and good luck...also if you have algebra already, chances are that you could still get in at Mountain View for this fall...they have a late application period(July xxx)...and they seem to be on the verge of getting fully approved for their nursing program..keep in mind they were a satelite program of BHC, so most of what they want you probably already have.

Escapebigd..In regards to the patho class(1311) that is based out of El Centro, Brookhaven does accept this class in exchange for the 1211..I have firsthand knowledge because I had the points for 1311 count towards my Fall 2011 application..Just be sure to get the nursing advisors at BHC to confirm this will be done in the future..It's basically the same course, in fact the one at El Centro is actually a 3 hour course while BHC's is only a 2 hour course..You will want to hurry to enroll with the online course(they fill up)..because like anything with nursing schools the information spreads quickly..This is why the competition is getting so fierce because everyone is learning stategy from those who have already jumped through the hoops of fire..Allnurses.com has been very helpful in my strategic plans..and sweetpea the HESI was very slimy and slick in the wording of their questions..even for those of us who have the best of grammar..

I have heard that 60 students is what Brookhaven will take for Fall 2011, although the Dean said 50 at the information session. Fortylove in my opinion you and anybody with over 32 points will get in with ease.(I wish I had that score)...You just never know, it will be interesting to see where the numbers fall this admission cycle.

Hello, to all my fellow Brookhaven Nursing student hopefuls, I am applying for fall 2011 admission. To the person who asked about 2012, to be competitive you generally will need a pre-req GPA of 3.0+(2.75 is the min.), a hesi score of at least 90+, and most if not all of your support classes completed(which equals 12 points), this will give you a score of 30+ that will put you in the race. I have been working on all of the above mentioned tips for 1.5 years and applied with a 31.31 score, I hope that squeaks me in. I do believe with 60 slots available the cut-off that was around 31.6 last semester will come down a bit, but not much, I'm guessing that anything over 29.5(jmo) will give us all a shot at getting in. Some factors should help us, like an improving economy, new min. score rules to apply(25), and a class that may be more normal than the ultra competitive class where anything below 31.6 sent you back to the drawing board.
