Hi, Nurse_AR415 maybe we could meet up in between Atlanta and Augusta. I work full time so the weekends would be better for studying.

Failed at 2nd NCLEX Attempt
Hi everyone I took the NCLEX RN exam again on yesterday. My computer stopped at 107 questions. When I was done I felt differently about this exam than I did when I initially took the exam in July. I felt that I had performed well. However, I received my Candidate Performance Review today from the State of Georgia. I was Near Passing in 5 areas and Below Passing in 2 areas. I am currently working full time as a Social Worker and PRN as a Nurse Extern (I just finished my BSN in May 2014). However, both jobs are very flexible so I definitely have enough time to study. I have completed the HURST review, Kaplan Reviews (My school used this for Senior Seminar), read PDA, and I also purchased the NCSBN and failing the first time. I would like to register again and retake my test within the next 45 days so that I can transition from my full time job as a social worker to be a nurse at the hospital where I work PRN. I am looking for NCLEX RN Study Groups in the Atlanta area or a personal mentor/tutor that can work with me one on one so that I can successfully pass the NCLEX. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

mommytobe: I think that you should contact the university and get started on seeing what courses you need to take. The required GPA is 2.5, but this is along with your NET score and the number of courses that you have taken at Brenau. There is no waiting list and the admission is based on a point scale not just GPA. I Bachelors and a Masters and they gave me a point for each degree when determining whether not I got admitted. They went off of my graduate school gpa since it was higher than my undergraduate gpa. Also, you should see if you will have to take Anat and Phy over again because if it is over 5 yrs you will have to. I can't guarantee you that you will get in but if you don't try you will never know. And it is definitely possible to have a baby and be in the part time program. We have several single parents there were two women that had a baby in October of last year and was still able to keep up and finish the semester. 2beanicurn: Even though you are not attending until next year I would still apply and see what course (pre reqs) I will have to take so that I will know how long I will be in school because pre reqs could add a few years on to the 3 years it take to complete once you are in the program. I just finished Pharam and it was hell!!! but I am getting close to finishing so I am willing to hang in there. Just know that you will have a lot of work to do and the professors do not give any chances for make up. If you fail a class in the Fall you have to sit out a year and come back the next Fall. I am reading and studying everyday. So if either of you are ready for the challenge I say go for it.

brenau university-
Hi, I am currently in my second year of the 3 year part time nursing program. It's a good program because it allows you to complete your clinical on the weekend and the classes on Tuesday and Thursday. However, sometime you may have to do some things on other days of the week it depends on the professor. The program is very demanding you have several assignments due during the week and there are also journals that you have to complete within 24 hours after completing you clinical on Saturday and Sunday. However, once you get a normal routine you will begin to do some things without over thinking it. I live in Atlanta and I commute to Gainesville with another classmate of mine that lives in Riverdale (we rotate days). There is no waiting list, the school accepts you based upon points (if you make over a 75 % on the NET, GPA is over a 2.5, if you have a bachelors (1) or Masters (2), how many courses you take at Brenau). Oh yeah, the school is private it's like 3200-3500 per semester. I'm not sure where the school ranks in the state, but I do know that they are the only school with part time BSN program and they just got approved for a DNP program that starts in August.

Nursing School Blues (Part-time Student/Full-time Job)
That's exactly what I am doing pushing through it. I guess I am taking this very seriously because I have completed a Masters program in Social Work. Although, I am attending this school it is very important that I get my money's worth because I am not receiving financial aid I am paying 3500 per semester (which does not include uniforms, nursing fees, or books), so as with anything that someone is paying for you would like to ensure that the instructors are not wasting your time. Thanks for the good luck I will keep you all updated on my progress.

Nursing School Blues (Part-time Student/Full-time Job)
Hi fromthesea I agree with you about the materials, reading, lectures, and the assignments, which would not be a problem, if the teacher would provide us with the material from the book that she chose for the semester. She is teacher material from a senior level (because she states that she teach senior and we have to know it). I agree, however, we have at least another year before we enter the senior level classes and we have not taken other courses like the senior to be able to learn the material so that we can demonstrate our skill levels. I agree with you and I think that I am not receiving the quality of education that I should, which is why I am going to get with some of the other nursing students to get their opinion on it as well.

Nursing School Blues (Part-time Student/Full-time Job)
Hi glencovediva, We are required to pass the calculations test with a 90% and pass all other test with a 75%. The test that I was referring to when she gave a curve was in our health promotions class. They are accredited, but I think that more attention is given to to day program and by the time they (Professors) get to us in the evening they are exhausted.

Nursing School Blues (Part-time Student/Full-time Job)
I attend Brenau University in Gainesville, GA and I am in the part time BSN program. I enjoyed the program when I first entered in January 2010. However, now it seems like "we (my classmates and I)" are not receiving the quality of education that we should be receiving. The first concern that I have is that we are moving through our courses without any guidance. Meaning that we were scheduled for orientation and it was cancelled due to the weather, but never rescheduled. I am competent and I can understand the assignments that are given. However, when 90% of the class are career switchers, it makes it hard to get a full understanding of everything that we need to know. The second concern is that one of the professors that is assigned to teacher the major courses, do not response to emails, post study guides/assignments late, and she make learning new material, such as dosage calculations impossible to learn because she makes up her own questions, which means that she is not teaching from the book, so that you can review similar problems to prepare for the exam. This teacher has given us a study guide, but when we took the test it was totally different and the majority of the class score below 75%. She had to give a 20 point curve to boost the grades up. We completed an evaluation on this professor last semester, however, nothing was done, so she is continuing to teach classes which lack quality. My last concern is that this program (Evening Weekend College) was meant to cater to working adults. It is true that you can complete your clinical on the weekend and your two classes during the week, however, there is no respect for a student's time. Due to the professor not scheduling CPR and First Aid appropriately, it inconvenienced some student. As a result, several people, including myself had to request off from work so that we could me the requirements. To anyone reading this post, understand that I am not complaining about being in Nursing school because this is something that I have a passion for and something that I have wanted to do all my life. I just want to ensure that we are getting our money's worth and that the quality of our education is good because this is a private school, which is very expensive when you are paying to receive a second degree.
