  1. Hi, I am a pre-nursing student at LCCC, WY. I am trying to get some information about when to apply to the nursing program. Because it is so competitive, I want to make sure I apply at the right time. I am currently taking A&PI, psychology, & history, and for Spring Semester 2013, I will be taking A&PII, Math 1400, and Nutrition. By the end of Spring Semester 2013, I will only have to take microbiology (which I plan to take Fall 2013) and then i will be completely finished with all of my pre-reqs. I am unsure if i should apply this spring for the fall Semester or wait until the fall semester to apply for the spring 2014 semester. I feel that having almost all pre-reqs out of the way would elevate my chances of getting in because I would have more of an opportunity to excel in the program since I wouldn't have any additonal classes besides the clinicals and the nursing class. However, I almost feel that if I apply for the Fall semester 2013, i could get in a little quicker (I am on a time crunch because I am not working and would like to be employed quicker, of course). I have yet to take the Kaplan and will need to do that prior to application, I know. I am not sure when to take that either, since it has a lot of science on there...? I heard it had a lot of questions about geology and chemistry.... never taken those classes. I heard it was like the ACT....which i took back in highschool (2006) and totally did bad on it. That is a big worry ... the kaplan. For anyone who is/was in the LCCC nursing program or another program similar, can you tell me when the best time to apply is? just for an fyi... I have a B in A&PI right now and my current GPA is a 3.6 If I do apply and do not get in, I am considering looking at other colleges in WY and CO. Thanks for any help!!
  2. I am going to take A&P1 in the fall and am trying to find out who the good teachers are, or who to avoid. My options are Reading, Roehrs, and Albert. Please help if you can!! Thanks!
  3. OK, so I haven't posted in awhile and have decided to go with the nursing career. Much more opportunities, better pay, and no gun shots to the head for me :) I start pre-nursing in the fall and am SO EXCITED! I only have 5 classes of pre-reqs, so I hope to finish next spring semester... For those that just got into the program or are applying, how is it looking as far as getting in? Is there much of a "waiting list" or is it hard to get all of the points? Big Question: The Kaplan test (nurse entrance test)... HOW DID YOU PASS IT?! I looked online for a preview test and it seems like it asks questions on stuff that's not even considered a pre-req... o_0 Also, which pre-req (science class) was the hardest? How did you study for those classes? Thansk for the info and GOOD LUCK to those who are applying/graduating/etc!!
  4. Is anyone currently Enrolled in the LCCC nursing program or just graduated? I am trying to decide whether to become a police officer or go into nursing. I think my biggest concern with nursing is that I am horrible at math, a slow learner, and a C student. I have always thought that people going into the medical field have to be geniuses. Is nursing school really that hard to get into? I already am stressing out and I haven't applied yet! Yikes!
  5. Hello all, I am a single mom of a 2 yr old and am seperating from active duty air force and going into the air national guard to go to school for nursing. I have about 5 classes of pre-reqs left before I can apply for the nursing program (will take me about 18 months to complete). I will be working a full time day-job and will be OK supporting both my son and myself while I am working on my pre-reqs, but my ultimate worry is "What will I do when/if I get accepted into the program?!" I do not have any family support here in my town or anywhere close. I really do not want to work while in the program as studying and book-work is my weak point. I really don't like school but I really want this. I have heard of college grants, WIC, Housing and Day care assistance, but is it possible to get a loan from a bank for about $50,000 to use as "income" for two years? I can live off about 2300 a month with assistance and government help. I am just wondering what some of you think because I haven't seen a post yet about a single mom and not working and not having a family support system. My alternate plan (in case i couldnt get a loan) was to just to work full time and get an LPN liscense online and some of it through class and eventually make my way up to RN, but it seems like that could take years and years... Any input would be GREAT!!!
