student loan forgiveness for nurses??
Anyone know any legit websites or programs out there for nurses that will forgive your student loans? Sadly, I've only been a nurse now for almost 2 years and haven't been able to make hardly any payments due to financial hardships. I went through a divorce right when I started working so it was very hard and now I owe roughly $34,000. This is getting ridiculous, I'm still not really able to pay and keep deferring and the interest is adding up. I do plan to pay but I was just wondering if anyone can help me out with some info? thanks

Anyone go to a Nursing convention?
So just found out that I was selected to go to one of my specialty (oncology) this year paid for. So excited! You know, I am considering ONS congress in CA or the Lymphoma one in Hawaii. Prob Hawaii... I'd never have that opportunity to go again. I am feeling guilty though... I have a 3 year old son who will prob stay home with dad and I' ve never been away from him for 5-6 days

Anyone go to a Nursing convention?
I guess with ours it's paid for also but their are stipulations such as if you have attended in the last 3 years you aren't eligible

Anyone go to a Nursing convention?
did you go alone or bring anybody along with you? Someone told me they brought their kids and i'm like well is there really any time to spend? I guess if you add days on you could turn it into a vaca but otherwise I think if I went alone for the 3 days I would just stay in the hotel the rest of the time

Anyone go to a Nursing convention?
Has anyone ever went to these out of town nursing conventions that are in another city like FL, Vegas etc that are paid for?? I was wanting to sign up for one because I have never been to one yet and was wondering what your experience was like? I would like to learn a lot about different treatments available for oncology patients since I work on the oncology floor. I was also wondering since they are usually 3 days do you get any downtime to visit the city at all or is it strictly all day your in the convention and then you fly back??

done with orientation...gift for my preceptor
I had the best orientation experience with my preceptor and am looking for some ideas of what I could get her? She has given me so much advice and I've learned so much from her.

trying again...
I really do feel more prepared this time around. I am still worried about pharm though. So hard to remember all these meds with their side effects and classes etc. Remembering the last part of the name has helped but not for all so I am spending the rest of the weekend on just meds and then maybe my last day practicing SATA type questions.

trying again...
2nd attempt is on Tuesday. Prayers needed. I did saunders CD and NCSBN the first time and didnt work. This time I took Kaplan did all qbank and question trainers except 7. I've gotten in the 50's and the highest score was a 60 on one of the tests. Not good at SATA so still worried. Readiness score was 58. DIDNT do Saunders this time but didnt have much time to do anything else because kaplan takes up a lot of time itself. First time I failed at 75 questions and I did so bad... only got above passing in one subject, and near passing in two. Is it even possible for me to get above passing in all subjects second time around? lol just saying. It's been 2 months since I took it Feb 5th. Wish me luck.

Kaplan Readiness test results...
okay that makes me feel a little better. I took an ATI exam right before I finished nursing school and I did so terrible but wasnt suprised because I hadn't been studying much. I think I got like a 50% but according to their scale I only had a 29% chance of passing so it was bad and I expected to fail.

Kaplan Readiness test results...
so I got a 58% on the Kaplan readiness exam and I'm not too happy about it. I heard a 65% is passing. What does a 58% equal out to for the NCLEX? I heard there is like a scale where it will tell you your probability of passing... so far I've taken three question trainers and they were: #1 48 #2 56 #3 53 I havent taken 4,5,6 and 7 yet but I have finished almost every question on the qbank and have been mostly in the middle 50's my highest was a 60. I am retesting on the 17th and I pray I pass this time! I failed 75 questions the first time and did horrible.

Kaplan help..
I agree at least as far as the videos go, they arent very informational and are very dry. Dont really cover much.

anyone use this book and feel like it was helpful? My friend who just passed used this, the purple kaplan book and saunders. She says they are hard questions and if you can answer them and get them right I will be fine.

Kaplan help..
hi so I bought the Kaplan on demand on Feb 28th. I have gotten through 2 topics so far and have scheduled my exam for april 17th. This will be my second time taking it I took it feb 6th and failed. My question is should I be going over the exact way they say too? Read, then watch the videos, then do questions and then the question trainers?? I feel like if I read and then watch the videos it is taking up a lot of time and I know the reading is helping but I dont know about going over the videos too or should I just keep doing it?? My scores are low on qbank the highest was like a 60%. What do they say you should be getting if you are ready?? Will I be ready to take it again by april 17th? I'm considering rescheduling but I want to take it so bad just want to make sure I'm ready.

Intermediate care units?
What exactly is an intermediate care unit? Is it like critical care? Somebody said it was a step down from that but didn't exactly explain to me what it entails of and what kind of patients I would see. I'm graduating next month with my BSN and dont want to work in critical care because I dont want to be a critical care nurse but would this be okay for me to work in? I see there is a day position available and I have an interview for a night med/surg position but I would rather have days because it would work best with my family so I was going to ask about this position as well during my interview. I hope that doesnt come off looking bad. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated

intermediate care vs med/surg floors
so I just got called for an interview for a nights med/surg position. After I got off the phone I got online to look at the positions again and found a day position for intermediate care. Thing is, I dont know what intermediate care is. I dont want to be a critical care nurse and someone told me it is a step down from that. Would it be better to take the nights med/surg position as a new grad or should I ask about the days position for intermediate care during my interview? Is that a big NO to ask about another position during an interview?

Different areas of nursing
The thing is they want us to pick something from a different category so since I picked mother/baby it is under the category of OB so I cant pick L&D or NICU I would have liked to... I'm pretty sure I'm going to choose Med-surg as my second choice and I'm thinking oncology for my 3rd because we never got to spend any time on the oncology floor for clinical so I dont know if It's something I would enjoy or not and would really like to find out.

Different areas of nursing
Next semester will be my last and today a professor came to talk to us about placing us in a certain area for capstone clinicals. We can choose our 3 top choices of the area we want to go in. So far, I know that I loved being on the mother/baby postpartum unit for clinicals so that would be my first choice. To be honest, I dont know what to put for the other two. I dont like peds, psych, or surgery. I was thinking Med-surg b/c obviously I'll get a ton of skills in but what else is there? I thought about picking oncology just so I could see what it's like and if I'd like it since we never got to spend any time on that floor at all. Any thoughts?? I enjoyed ortho/neuro but its a lot of lifting and I'm a small person. How about rehab??
