Denver School of Nursing
I'm confused rnphd2b. Three posts ago you were asking if anyone had heard that the school has recieved permission to grant BSN's and now you are someone who's already in the program and very happy?

Denver School of Nursing
I have also been looking into the DSON upper division program and have the same concerns about the lack of accredidation and how it would effect my ability to get a job after the program. Another downside to the program is that they have very little financial aid avaiable, and the program is around $30,000. It sounds like you can get enough financial aid to pay for the program but not much extra for living expenses while you're in school. Please share any information you all find out about the program. It's an interesting option, but it's kinda scary thinking about spending all that money and having trouble getting a job when your done.

MA's Calling Themselves Nurses?
I took my dog into the vet at Pet Smart today and was told the "nurse" would be right with me. I replied, "Don't you mean the vet tech?" I was told that the policy at Pet Smart was now to refer to the vet techs as nurses. What do you all think about that? I'm not a nurse yet, but was in major shock over this. What do you all think?

Social Work to Nursing or vice versa
I am currently a social worker taking my prereqs for nursing school. I hope to work in psychiatric nursing. For me, a big advantage to nursing is the pay and job availablity. I have a B.A. in psychology, and decided to work in the social work field before going to grad school. My experience as a social worker has taught me that jobs are few (even for people with master's degrees), the pay is horendous (lucky to start out at $10 - $11 an hour), and it is very difficult working with people when a large majority of them refuse or are inable to take responsibilty for their actions. So, I've decided to take the plunge at nursing rather than continuing with a masters in psychology because I think it will give me more opportunities in life and a better quality life to help me provide for my family. I also believe that many of the aspects I love about social work (making a diference in people's lives) will be a huge part of my job as a nurse. I am however concerned with the physical aspect of nursing and the wear and tear it does on your body. Nursing is also much more stressful, and taking the responsibility for another life is an immense responsibility. I also think nursing school is much more difficult than getting an advanced degree in social work or psychology. :)

Denver Area Nursing Schools
Thanks for your reply. I guess I'm wondering how long it will take for me to get into a nursing program. I know the waitlist is around 500 for local community colleges, and there seems to be very limited space at accelerated programs. Has anyone who was recently accepted into a program locally have any info on how long it took them to get in. Thanks.:)

Denver Area Nursing Schools
I'm planning on starting my prereqs for nursing school this fall. I'd like to get some information on how difficult it is to get into local nursing programs. I already have a degree, but it seems like the accelerated second degree programs are few and far between. Has anyone been through this recently and have any info?:)
