It will work the same way as outsourcing other jobs. They are bringing in "cheap" labor and your salaries will go nowhere as the cost of living increases. Nurses deserve good pay and benefits. We are exposed to all types of illnesses... often putting our health on the line. All we ask is a decent salary and good benefits to take care of us as we spend our careers taking care of the sick. Not too much to ask.

I am sure there are some problems with unions. However when someone can mention letting California be a "right to work" state......LOOK AT FLORIDA. Staff positions top out at $25 per hour base rate at some of the largest hospitals in Central Florida. This does not include shift differential but who wants to live on $25 per hour? Nurses can ban together but they won't. They are too busy working 12 hour shifts, extra shifts and so forth to take the time. Someone has to organize for them.

Very few places offer good benefits.... and try and apply for disability insurance being a hospital nurse.... you are considered "high risk" and the monthly premiums are higher than most other professions. Cost of living has skyrocketed. Salaries are staying the same. Nurses need unions and the states that pay the worst can't get nurses to sign up. It's time to take a stand.

There are all kinds of prejudices in nursing. There are new graduates who are out of nursing school or those that are transferring into a higher level unit who are bullied by the more experienced nurses, etc. I've seen older nurses set up and let go because of their age. I don't think color has anything to do with it. Many hospitals prefer male nurses and they actually get paid a higher starting rate than females. There is alot of prejudice in nursing but when you see this happening, there is a problem from the head down. The managers are allowing this to happen and turn a blind eye instead of taking a stance. Don't let this discourage you. We are in the profession to care for the sick. Let things go in one ear and out the other and if you need to address a problem, do it professionally and keep your cool at all times. Good Luck
