Anyone going to Mansfield Ohio for CPNE soon?
Snow Emergency in Mansfield! I hope everyone makes it ok! I've been hunkered down in my hotel room trying to believe it's really February 25th. I've had an ap on my phone counting down to this date for awhile and this morning it says 0. It's surreal.

IV Gauge for CT
Wow. Quite a ******* match. Extravastion of an EJ is not acceptable. It is the last option to place an EJ for a CT. A decision made in, tops, 15 minutes of arrival time. I've worked here 5 years and have never, ever had an EJ blow. Nor have I seen any. I'm simply stating what our hospital policy is on catheter size for CT. That was the question. 18G in the AC or above (both in the body and in G) if it's a CT for anything chest and up. This is a code/trauma protocol. A larger catheter size makes the risk of extravastion much lower. Just the facts. And thank you for the inservice on what an angiography is. Relax, dude.

passed cpne
Congratulations! I've been checking all day to see what you had to say! I go in two weeks and would love to hear your thoughts on how your weekend went. Once you relax and have a minute to have it all sink in please post! I'm wondering what the probability would be for me to have a peds pt. What type of tubes were common. Hoping to say I passed in a few more weeks, too! :ancong!: That is awesome!

Well said.

Prescribing narcotics to drug seekers
The problem is, the emergency room is not the place to be demonstrating unconditional regard for a patient who is attention/drug seeking. Sounds like a social work issue. And the nurses can get back to treating EMERGENCIES. Not trying to be insensitive, but if a patient has been to the emergency room several times for the same "problem" that "no one" will solve, perhaps they are not following up appropriately. Or they are drug seekers. Either way it's a major drain on emergency room resources.

IV Gauge for CT
Routine tests, I absolutely agree. Not worth it to risk extravasation. I don't agree with never. Sometimes the risk outweighs the benefit. And those are the types of cases I see everyday.

Chest CT- 18G in the AC is required. If it doesn't happen, we put in an EJ. Period. I work in a Level I Trauma Center. I'm sure a 20 would work, but not an option here.

Applied for CPNE 11/01 and had a date by the next week for 3/17, but I was on the cancellation list and was offered a spot for the last w/e of Feb. I'm getting down to the wire. Hope I can post a big, fat I PASSSSED!!!!! in March. Back to the books. :pntlft:

And where in the world did you get your white shoes. I just realized we can't wear clogs. I just ordered a pair from allheart.com before I saw that. I read- all white shoes. Don't know where to look in Feb in Indiana!

CPNE workshops??? HELP!!!
I went to http://www.clinicalprepexam.com It was before right when I became CPNE eligible. A lot to learn and totally worth it. Cons: a lot of fan fare for Jesus that is not pertinent to everyone. I've emailed her for advice since CPNE is soon and haven't heard from her.
