2nd Resume Help

Mercy Bakersfield Questions
Hey all, I have a job offer at Mercy SW in Bakersfield. If accepted, I will be relocating there. How do you like living there? Does anyone have any experience working with the hospital there? Have you heard anything regarding their Versant residency? There is a very large buy out if you do not stay for a full 2 1/2 years. I would be really appreciative of any information you could offer.

Job decision, help please!!!
Thanks for your relpy. The 2 1/2 year contract is in Bakersfield, CA. The re-imbursement is pro-rated, but starts at $23,000, and then goes down from there. That could possibly mean that even if I stay there for over a year, I could still be expected to pay them $12,000. This is a major concern for me... although the Versant program seems like a huge benefit.

So say you pass NCLEX and can't obtain a new grad job right away what should you do?
I agree, it is very frustrating to work so hard and not be able to get a job. It's incredibly disappointing. There is hope though. After 7 months, I just got 2 offers in different hospitals, so I believe it will happen for you. While I was going through the application process (every day), I started nannying part-time as well. It made me feel useful, brought me some joy, and helped keep me financially afloat. I also had an volunteer RN internship lined up as well. Check with some hospitals if they have any programs like this to keep you involved in the hospital while you are waiting for an offer (it could also lead into something if they like you). Then you can still work doing something else, and keep a foot in the hospital door. I also recommend keeping your mind completely open, and applying for positions that would mean re-locating (if that is an option for you at all). Some job markets are better for new grads right now than others. I know it's hard - I wish you the absolute best!

Job decision, help please!!!
Well, as most of you know the job market for new grad RNs in Southern CA is not too hot. So after 7 months of filing applications every day, I was very surprised to get 2 offers in one week! Now I am faced with a difficult choice. The first one is new grad on an oncology/med-surg unit, at a hospital applying for magnet status in the town that I currently live in. The second one is in a family birth center at a hospital that means relocating 2 1/2 hours north of where I currently live, but offers a more thorough Versant new grad program (and so requires a 2 1/2 year commitment). Either job would be good, and I feel so blessed. But I am having a difficult time making the choice. In the long term, I am equally interested in working in public health (which women's health fits right into) or oncology, but I'm not sure which path I want to take. I am worried that whichever position I take may pigeon hole me into a particular area for my nursing career. Moving north would also put me farther away from my support system... but could also be exciting. Please.... any tips/opinions/previous experience that you can share? I would really appreciate it!
