  1. It sounds like lots of newbies are in the same boat. On my floor we are loosing the new nurses left and right. I have been a nurse for about 10 months now and I decided to go back to school for a non nursing related advanced degree. I am on a med/surg floor and its taxing at best-but then there are those days when a pt is able to tell you how much you helped them and then for that moment things make sense. I wish you luck in you endavour- there is a fit for eveybody and that is one of the best things abt nursing- the ability to move and change.
  2. I am a newis BSN grad-IMHO if you are looking to go ino mgmt get your BSN right away If you think that you will be happy as a floor nurse go for your ADN. At my current hospital there is no difference in pay between ADN and BSN prepared nurses, but in the city where I went to school there was a differential for educational level. I decided early on that I wanted management and more admin. oppertunities so the BSN was a necessity for my grad school admissions (which I start in a few weeks!!) Always remember to value your education it is something that can never be taken away from you!(even if you go broke getting that knowledge!!) Good luck with your HESI and NCLEX!!
  3. I was just wondering if your place of employment offers increased pay for BSN. I graduated with my BSN and the hospitals in my area offered a differential (usually $1-$2 more / hr and a higher grade ie.RN2) I just moved to a large midwestern city and education has no impact on the pay scale. How common is this? The hospital is applying for Magnet status and I would think this would be something that would be considered.
