  1. That sounds more logical then paying all that money. Plus I read some more threads saying that all the material was not covered in the TCN modules. Im going to call ISU and see if I can get a study outline.
  2. Thanks for all the advice given. I figured out a solution to the TEAS exam proctor thanks to caliotter3 . Now for the modules the jury is still out on that one. I tried looking on the ISU site and I didnt find much. So I went ahead and called TCN. Well.... the sales dept. told me that for those FOUR classes it would cost me alittle over 2000 dollars!!!! WTH!!!! But they could set me up with monthly payments of 100 to200 dollars a month. This is why I didnt want to call TCN because they are thieves, they take advantage of people wanting to go back to school and charge them outrageous prices. I'm going to consider going to college in my neighborhood. I would love to go online but it seems like too many hoops to jump through and too much money that I dont have right now. Has anyone else done the ISU LPN2BSN? How did you budget? Was it worth it in the end?
  3. I have just applied to Indiana State University so that I can start the process to get into their LPN to BSN program. My advisor emailed me step by step instructions that I need to complete. One of the steps said that I would need to call 'The College Network" to get the study modules. Well I heard the horror stories about that company so I looked on Amazon to see if anyone is selling their modules for the challenge exams. Unfortunately I didnt find any . Does anyone know any other sites that I can get these challenge exam modules? I dont want to pay hundreds of dollars for something that I could get for a fraction of the cost. Also I see where I have to take a TEAS exam and I have to find my own proctor but I dont know anyone here in Virginia like that. Is there a place where I can find a proctor? Could I go to a library maybe? I dont attend any colleges here. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks :D:D
  4. It's looking like I will have to take a job as a caregiver.
  5. Thanks for all the encouragement and I will try sending a Thank You card. I am just going to keep praying to God. Darlink if you can wait 8 months and drive 130 miles to go to work then I can wait this storm out a little longer. Please pray for me and these school loan bills.
  6. Hi I am a new grad LPN that moved from Florida to Virginia to live with my husband. I have been putting in applications from the time I got here which was in December 2010 to the present day. I have recieved 2 interviews and no calls from the rest. I have let other nurses look over my resume and they say that there is nothing wrong with it and I have practiced mock interviews to make sure that I make a good impression. But so far no luck my qualifications didnt meet the companies need on one job and the other job didnt even call me back. I'm just tired of being out of a job and feeling like a bum. I joined this career because I love helping ppl and know there are a huge demand for nurses. But where is the huge demand? I feel some of the companies are wrong for not even letting you know if you are considered or not. All I get is a if we you are considered for the position we will call you line. Shaking my head.....I am about done with this game I feel like a fool wasting all that time and money I have to pay back in school loans:jester::jester: I just feel so discouraged right now and have no other ideas. I'm tired of calling and going to facilities and practically begging for a job. If they needed someone so badly for a position then why have it opened for months on end???? I dont get it you have ppl coming to you for this position, at least hire someone qualified for the position and put the rest of us out of our misery!!!! Sorry if I have depressed you but thats how I feel now :crying2: This nurse is going to blow out her nurses candle and take off her nurses hat. This career is obviously not where its at for me......
  7. I am going to be starting Excelsior soon and hope I will have a solid plan by the time I take my CPNE. Im thinking about getting some study materials now and just reading it as I take the test. I have read countless forums about this CPNE and it sounds like a beast! :hlk::hlk:
  8. Yeah I would go to the advisor because I had problems in that same area and my instructor paired me up with someone who knew that area better. It was hard work but it paid off and I appreciated all the help I recieved from my classmates and instructor
  9. Where do I start off? Ok I'm a new grad LPN and I recently accepted a job at ALF. So excited that I recieved this job, I overlooked that I will be the only nurse on the 3 to 11 shift ....That was my first mistake!!! My second mistake was that I will be working with med techs. And the big DOOZY, only being oriented in 2 shifts!!!! I mean Brand New nurse isn't stamped any bigger on my forehead?! So hey I'm an Optimist(up until this morning) I told myself I'll go ahead and try it out. Not only was my orientation crappy, I was left alone after 2 hours with a Med Tech!!! Not once did I orientate with a nurse. I'm sorry to bash med techs but you cant just pass pills and not assess or follow up. I wonder what is going on with the laws now a days. I never was on the same hall for my orientation or the same shift, so basically I dont know the residents names well or their habits. I felt so lost when I was by myself as far as med pass and organizing my time. And on top of that I had to slip the assignment with the CNA and I had to give showers and pass meds to ppl I dont know. Its hard when you have 2 sun downers trying to escape, a med pass, a doctor on the phone, prescriptions that need to be ordered, 2 showers, and a CNA who tells you what their going to do and what their not going to do. Literally, yesterday was the worse day of my life!!! I felt so lost, I didnt know where nothing was at :uhoh3:. So after the work day from h-e- double hockey sticks this brand new lpn went home. I never was the type to give up so I came in from an orientation for the 11-7 shift. Well.....that too was cut short! I was trained by a med tech for about 1 hour before she slipped and fell in urine She had to go home and I was by myself all alllloooonnnee!!!! Once again she only told be things about the nursing station not the patients so I was left in the dark. After going home after AWD...another work diaster! The LPN who does the schedule called me wanting to stick me on several 11-7 shifts for next month. I was saying *** ***! She told me this was going to be once in awhile not like a permanant shift! Overall I am I feel this place exhaust me and is taking advantage of me being new. I just want to leave and never return! NEVER! But I know there are excited experienced nurses out there who can give me wonderful advice. So shall I stay or shall I go?
  10. I appreciate all the nurses out there who share their knowledge. I really dodged a bullet with TCN! When my husband gets stationed again, I will find a college and clep out of the necessary classes. I remember talking to a rep from TCN and they wanted me to pay 7500 dollars for those study materials and it was 250 a month. I quickly DECLINED! I think God! :yeah::yeah::yeah:
