Hi everyone, I'm new here but have been checking allnurses for info since I started to look for a CNA training program. I'd like to work in the medical field in a few years to come and thought that working as a CNA would be a great way for me to get valuable experience in the health care field. I enjoyed working with the residents during my 4day internship at a nursing home before I completed my CNA training and on the other hand I feel CNA's are doing a GREAT job,I mean the residents REALLY need their help.It made me sad at first but now it has fueled in me a thirst to help as much as I am capable.I finished my CNA training a week ago and will soon take the state board exams. But a question I'd like to ask is that I'll be turning 18 in 4months time, would any nursing home want to hire me after I get my certification? Would they feel I am not matured enough? If not should I volunteer at a nursing home first and then apply for a position there? I'm hoping to get a job in a Nursing home working weekends while I go to school. I live in New York city too so can anyone please give me some advice. Thanks
