I would take it. A good facility is hard to find. Once you are in you will start working as a nurse real fast. CNA work is nursing work.

This is the thing, many facilities will help you pay for a CNA class if you agree to work for them for so many months. Maybe you should contact a few and see what they say. The facility I work at will pay for you to take the class and pay you a wage while you take it if you agree to work so many months. Check into it.

I had another RN say to me come on be honest, don't you sign for things you really have not done. RN stated there is no way a person can get every eye drop. She shocked me, this type of nursing never crossed my mind. Now that I have worked awhile it makes me alittle sick. I had to call a Dr about a women who got several units of R insulin in the morning. I held the insulin because she had not been eating and her BG was real low. Dr told me she is insulin dependent give her the insulin. He would not listen to the whole story and hung up on me. Needless to say I did not give it. Family switched doctors thank God, Everytime I talk to this Dr I am reminded of behavior and am use alot of caution when working with him. His order could have killed her.

Ewh I dont think I could do it again. Nursing school is so hard. Just a warning you will have to give up your life for awhile. No going out on Friday night etc. It is study and write papers, clinicals at 4am it is tough. Keep you head up. No one cares about your grades later just that you pass you state boards. Med surg is youmost important class. Plan for it. Congrads on getting in. The whole process is horrrible. Just glad I did it.

Weird situation you have in Boston. Up here in the north it is a much different situation. The facility I am at called me before I graduated. I did not even apply and they called me. Great place to work to. I hope that situation does not start up here. I live in eastern MT

CNA are often treated like crap. I agree. A good CNA makes my day so much easier. However teh good CNA's I have worked with are proud they are aids and show it. I still think the patient/resident has the right to know when they are consulting a licensed person. CNA's are worth their weight in gold, still patient/resident rights are still in the mix. They have the right to the truth.

Not sure what the grosses is. I have been thinking about this. Probably a pt digging himself out with a spoon and later we found out it went back to the kitchen and used again. Or could be walking a room of a 80+ male masterbating. Still yet it could be the many requests for oral sex. How about the one where a pt took a dump in the dining room. Writing on the wall with stool is another. My stories are not as bad as alot of you guys but I have alot of them.

I work in a nursing home. They are not the evil place they once were. Residnet's now have rights and nursing homes have to respect those rights. I have seen many people have a huge issue with placing their loved one. Guilt, worry, shame, feeling as if they abandoned them. Fact is when their loved ones come in they are often dirty, bed sores, wound issues, acute conditions, malnutrition, etc. Nursing homes right away start to clean them up. In a month you often dont even recognize the person. I have to say they are often doing so much better. That being said if you are thinking of putting you loved on in a nursing home check the place out first. Ask a nurse or CNA do you like working here? If they say yes it is a good place. If they say no stay away. I love where I work. Residents get excellent care there to. Some nursing homes are A++. Check them put first go with your gut. :redbeathe

Nursing home 4:80. We do it all to. They stay if it is even a acute condition. Sometimes it is alot to balance. We have CNA's that are great. Lots of work. I always laugh when a med surg nurse crosses over because she wanted a "slower pace". Med surg nurses not a cool statement. Nursing homes do alot, draw blood, IV's, Cath, tube feedings, hospice care you name it. Very busy but I love it.

Oh I have also heard all of those things. How about you have no right to hit me and cuss at me. Also sometimes I would love to tell patients to change to another Dr the one they have is an idiot who has no clue. I have thought that many times.

I use the online programs to file my taxes.THey walk you right through it is easy. If you go to the irs.gov they have a listing of sites you can use for a small fee. I have done it for years. It takes about 45 minutes and you can electronically file state and federal. Very very easy.

I took my NClex in July. I really studied. If you reread your med surg book I think you will be okay. Everyone that I know reread their med surg ook and passed with ease. Good luck

I have had similar situations at my work. CNA's will tell people they are the nurse. This makes me mad, partly because people will tell their nurse things they will not tell a CNA. They think they are talking to a nurse. It is not that I think I am better but the patient needs to know when they are really talking to a nurse. I am new to the facility so I have not said anything. I will soon enough.
