I think you are too late for South Australia as well. I finished Uni last year and there were 1500 students from 3 universities applying for less than 1000 graduate positions in South Australian hospitals. The SA government is intending to cut 3000 jobs from public hospitals to save money because they have over spent the health budget. It is a similar situation in Queensland. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought you should know how tough it is to get a graduate position in nursing in Australia. Bye the way the patient ratios were negotiated as part of the enterprise agreement involving industrial action.

In the last 2 years Australian Universities have supplied more graduates than there were positions for graduate nurses in the health system. Therefore it would be better to get experience before applying to work in Australia.

If you study nursing (bridging course or bachelor of nursing) you must pass IELTS with score of 7 to register as a nurse with AHPRA. If you do not pass the English test you can not work as a nurse. Some international students I know from last year have taken the test several times & not passed. It costs money each time you take the test.

Bianca, Inverbrackie is a former defence village that now houses refugee families. The children are allowed to leave the village to go to school but the parents are not legal immigrants. Mental health nurses visit the refugees in their community. I hope this explanation helps.

Hi Bianca, I am a nurse in Adelaide. I work @ Royal Adelaide Hospital. This is the major public hospital in South Australia. It is closely affiliated with the universities as a teaching hospital. Glenside is the major public mental health hospital in the public sector. Mental health is going through tough period with beds being closed despite increasing need. If you look for the South Australian Department of Health website you will be able to find vacancies in SA public sector. Good luck with your search. Adelaide is a small place. Who knows, you might end up working on my ward.
